The role of the President

I am curious what people think the role of the President is. I am speaking specifically of the United States, but other countries can certainly chime in. In my opinion, the President should be unifying the states together, reaffirming "United States". Congress is made up of representatives from every state to organize our country. If I am wrong, please show me how. If I am right, please tell me why our President keeps jumping into the middle of States issues and creating and encouraging chaos? Specifically, Wisconsin. The governor there is trying to get control of his budget. Our President is encouraging people to divide and NOT work together. Stopping Arizona from protecting its borders and in turn helping to make our whole country safer. Why would a unifier sue states? States that are well with in their own jurisdiction?

The Job of the President of the United States is described in the United States Constitution under Article II section 2. He is the Commander and Chief of the Armed Services also of the National Guards of the several states. He can make treaties if 2 thirds of the senate agree. He can grant pardons he can nominate Supreme Court Judges. He has limited amounts of power as the United States Constitution was designed to ensure that this nation doesn't form into a dictatorship. But was a stronger form of government than the one previous to the Constitutional Republic which was a lose Confederacy of the 13 states. He gets to address Congress in the State of the Union speech. He doesn't have the power to deploy military forces into combat with out congresses permission he can't enter the country into treaties with out the permission of Congress. He is basically has a little bit more power than a figure head for the country.

he pretty much is a figure head, would you think he should unify rather than divide for the benefit of his party/agenda

Really? I could have sworn that after 9/11 MOST vehicles were running around with flags on them. People were the most patriotic they had been since Reagan. How soon we forget!

well he should try but he also should stand up for what he believes in. And not get ran over by his party. I mean if the President should Unify than I think the last president didn't do a good job of that either.

they seem to be interfering with the states ability to self govern. i'm really surprised we're not on the edge of civil war 2 yet with states wanting to leave.i don't know how much each state has to give up to the government moneywise, but it seems like the overspending all around is making it impossible for states to budget. but yea,he is supposed to be a mediator of sorts i thought, but on the whole everything lately seems to be running like a circus wagon with a broken wheel. part of congress seems to be openly defying him.

I agree. Obama seems to forget the scope of federal government. Dont get me wrong, I do not mean to insinuate that he is the first president to do so. But he can be the one to stop it.

The sad thing is that I think he believes he will unite us this way. It's like how dictators unite their countries by tearing down their opponents within their own countries effectively forcing people to be under their banner.

I think your right. And I think this is a sure indication of Obamas mental problems. He seems to think he can never be wrong and that his way is the only way. Thank goodness us "dum" Americans have his high level of intelligence to tell us what we should think.

I dont know what your head huncho is doing but theres this rumors that says that our is smoking pot and jamming with known musicians. As far as Im concerned, they are voted to .....what the hell are we voting them for to begin with? All they do is spend MY money, tax me more and more, do stupid things that will only cost me MORE money and I say we need to be able to fire them when they are not doing their jobs. People forget that PEOPLE is their boss, so why arent they listening to us? I hate government!! I want to go live somewhere where they dont pay taxes and have NO government per say!

Unfortunately, I think this President missed his civics classes and doesn't understand the role of the federal executive branch of government/office of the president. Because he doesn't get what his role is, I'd just as soon he go play basketball/golf/go on vacation, and let the rest of us figure out a way to solve the mess he and other presidents/congresses got us in to. His open support of the unions (not even the teachers) has told me he hasn't moved to the center at all. Again, it was all show/words, earlier, but his actions have again shown his true colors.
