i've been quite enlightened by many posts here in myLot regarding foods that turn out to be poisonous in some way or unhealthy for dogs due to digestive tract incapabilities. my concern now is my pet dog does not consume enough water, which i know is not healthy for every living mammal. i could only make her drink water whenever i play with her and make her thirsty. however, right now (due to work and family), i've no time to spend with my dog, so she doesn't get to play enough (she's already 3 years old) to get thirsty and drink. how could i make her drink ample amounts of water so that she won't get dehydrated? every week or twice each week, she vomits a certain shade of yellow bubbly liquid, which is concerning for me. is this related in some way? i'm sure that that vomiting stuff is not healthy. how could i counter this? quite a load of questions but anyone care to enlighten me?

Dogs drink when they need to drink. If they're getting dry food, they tend to drink more. With the canned/wet foods they are getting water from the food and will drink/need less. Some dogs just vomit and unless accompanied by other symptoms, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Some of the dogs I've had would not drink from their water bowl unless the water was fresh. You need to refill the water bowl with fresh water two or three times a day. And be sure that the bowl is always full. I also buy drinking water or spring water that comes in the big containers for my pets. I've heard that the tap water isn't exactly healthy for us humans so I figure it wouldn't be good for the pets either. Unless she's having symptoms of illness, I wouldn't worry about her drinking. She'll drink when she's thirsty. Having less activity will cut down on her thirst.

well, i don't think i'm seeing other symptoms of disease or illness, but i always make sure that the water i've been putting in my dog's dish is fresh. i sometimes give give her cold water or iced water, is that bad for them? i don't think you would believe my dog's story, but her consumption of water (an honest estimation) is maybe about 250mL every week, or twice a week, which i know is really concerning for every pet dog owner. is there something i could do to make her drink more, aside from making her thirsty through exercise, which appears to be the same as an inactive dog not drinking the same amounts?

Does she play fetch? Maybe use an ice cube as an item for her to go fetch will add some water to her intake. I don't know as the cold/iced water is good or not good for her but I wouldn't do that unless the weather is hot. Your best option would be to give the vet a call and ask about this. I don't think a vet would charge for just a phone call.

I actually don't worry about my dog's drinking habits. He drinks when he is thirsty. We also let him eat food with a chicken broth or meat broth. He loves soup...
Maybe your dog ate something poisonous..
