I am a Chinese. A lot of my American friends told me it is very difficult for them to learn Chines. Many of them told me it is more harder than learning English. Are you learning Chinese? Do you think Chinese is very hard to learn?

I lived in Taiwan for a few years and I had a tutor teach me Chinese but I got lazy and stopped studying. For me the hardest part is the tones. Other than that some aspects of Chinese is a lot easier than English for example the verb tenses. With English we have to learn past, present, future, present progressive, past progressive, future progressive, present perfect, future perfect etc. With Chinese you don't have all that so it's simpler in that way. Also for me the measure words were difficult it seems there are lots of measure words to know in Chinese compared to English. I'm not even going to get into learning characters. I tried to learn to write a little but I was more focused on speaking. I can really only recognize two characters. I am still working on speaking. I want to be fluent but my biggest problem is that I get lazy and don't study like I need to. In some ways Chinese is harder than English and in some ways it's easier.

Practice makes perfect. Maybe you can go and talk with some Chinese there. Wish you have fun in learning it. It is interesting to me that in Taiwan it sounds different than the Main land. Also I heard the tutor fee is very high there. I would hire a tuor if I were you.
