Shockwave Flash plug-in: God help me

From time to time, I get this error message at the top of my screen: "The following plug-in has crashed: Shockwave Flash" and then all of the videos and games I have going go black and display a white jigsaw puzzle-piece with a face on it. I looked this problem up online and there are simply far too many variations of and causes for this problem. I use Windows 7 and Google Chrome. Have any of my Mylottin' buddies had this happen to them? Did you get it fixed? How?
