The era of acronym conversation

I notice that for the past 10 years till now, more acronyms are used during texting or messaging. Some common acronyms are fyi (for your info), gtg (got to go), ttyl (talk to you later) and etc. Is this the era of using acronym during conversation?

I think words are evolving over time depending on how they are being used by the people. Some text words have been very popularly used like OMG, LOL and FYI that the Oxford English Dictionary have already included them in their on-line listing. It is becoming acceptable nowadays.

I think it is because of the limitation of text that the phone can support in a single message...More or less, many people especially young people text a lot, yet not having much credit for their messages...By doing that, it saves their credit as well as being faster in conversation... When it comes to computer, I believe they are used to text their friends that way and for that it has become a habit...
