My first pet is a cat, and then i have a dog, they cant go together they are always fighting, my dog i guess wants to play with the cat and the cat doesn't want to. Well anyway the cat is always outside the house and my dog is always inside coz he's just a puppy. Problem is when i transfer from that house to another one, i have to bring them together but they cant stay together. My cat comes back in the previous house, my relatives is feeding him while my dog stays with me. I want to have them both in the new place where i stay. What can i do to make them friends?

You say your dog is still a puppy? Did you just get him? What breed is he and how big is he right now? If the dog really is just trying to play with the cat, then (this may sound harsh) you can try to let him learn the hard way the cat doesn't want to play with him. Don't stop the dog from approaching the cat, and once the cat hits him he may stop trying. All three of our dogs know not to go near our cat Molly, but they also know they are okay to be around our other cats Duncan and Sweet Pea. All of our dogs and cats live together in the house. Dogs can be taught who they can bother and who they can't, and your cat will teach your pup very quickly that he can not bug her. You just have to make sure the dog doesn't bite! Our dogs don't bite when Molly hits at them, they retreat. If your dog is in fact still a puppy, it would be best to let him learn right away that the cat is something to be respected and not played with! lol Good luck!

i completely agree with this having 2 dogs and 4 cats as well as foster cats coming and going i usually just let them figure out who's in charge they all know to stay away from the older cat after one or two swats upside the head

Lol yeah. Not sure if most people realize most domesticated dogs won't attack a cat who is their fellow household pet if the cat hits them...usually they will retreat, and learn from the experience! lol. It's kind of funny to watch as long as no one really gets hurt Thanks!

Dogs and cats can be friends, but its a tricky situation. I once had a siamese cat and a long-haired chihuahua. They got along great but the pup was very laid back and only played gently. When I brought the kitten home it was like the dog was an older sibling. They played but boy would that dog bark if Nala got out of line. It was very sweet and I miss both of them dearly.

Training, the dog will always try to be in charge, u have to be there to train it so it will listen to you and not be paying that much attension to other things. My 2 brats look at the cat we feed on the front porch, they just look. When the cat wants food it comes to the door, I open it and the dogs r curious, just looking. The only time they really get riled is when the cat runs away. They listen to me and stop when I tell them NO.

I have 4 dogs and 2 cats at home. The first time I brought home the cats, I put them in a cage for a month so they will get used to their new environment and they will get familiar with the smell of our home. When I get home from work or when I still have time in the morning, I brought the cats outside their cage, (I close all the doors and the windows so they won't get out of the house) and let them roam inside the house and play with the dogs. When I thought that they are ready to be free from the cage, I let them out and they just stay at the vicinity, they go out yes, but they still come home to eat and drink and sleep.

Now what you think will not happen It will be difficult to change their behavior now.But it is possible if you start it earlier in your baby pets.

I have a cat and a dog too. They are not necessarily friends, but they do not fight. What's even more surprising is that our cat would not have been easily changed, since she grew up in our household as a single pet (minus some fish). I guess after a while, they just get used to each other.

I think that cat and dogs can be friends after awhile. When we first got our cat we had to tell our 1 dog "No Kitty" and he left the cat alone after awhile. Now they do have there instances where they chase each other around but for the most part they are good and leave each other alone.

Yes, cats and dogs can be friends. I've heard of stories like that but I don't have a personal experience, though. I guess if they grow up together they may develop friendship but it's not a guarantee.

I used to have 3 cats and 1 dog living together. They cuold be friends sometimes but they could be mean to each other as well. My cats were really friendly, they don't mind the dog got close to them. But my dog could get very mean sometimes and growled at them when the cats got too close to her or her food. I think you can nicely and slowly introduce them to each other, don't let them stay so close at the beginning, let the dog sniff the cats and let the dog know cats are belong to the dog as well.

Not all cats and dogs have to fight and dislike each other. I have had cats and dogs both as pets that got along famously with each other. It is how you let them interact with each other that decides if they will get along with each other or not.

I do not think it is something that you can force. IF both of the pets are older, it seems to happen naturally if they are in the same house, that or they learn to stay away from one another. I have a friend who has two cats and a dog. The one cat hates everyone and everything. The other cat and dog are best friends. they curl up and take naps together. it is really cute.

We used to have a cat and dog and they were best friends. They would sleep side by side and share each other's food.We did nothing to make them close, they just gelled together instantly. I think it all depends on the traits and characteristics of your pets.

Yes they can if you have the right cat and the right dog , so you really have to depend on the tempremnent of both and somethims it helps if they are briought up together but sometimes a little cat will cuddle up to an older dog as the case with a friends of mine.

Hello, I think this will be harder for your cat than your dog.If the cat reacts and runs everytime it sees the dog then I guess your dog will enjoy chasing it. When I got a kitten I was so worried about what out German Shepherd would do that I put a muzzle on him.Once they had gotten used to each other in a controlled environment I took the chance and took the muzzle off.Our wonderful kind German Shepherd just licked the kitten and for a few days the poor little thing was dripping wet. Then they became best mates.Great company for each other. If you are worried about what the dog will do try a muzzle. He will learn to respect those claws.

If they're socialised from a young age then they usually can be.
