Do you think it's the governments roll to take care of poor or less fortunate?

Do you think people who make more should be taxed at higher rate so the money gets channeled into federal programs that support people who need food stamps, welfare, and housing? Can't this system be privatized and people could give back to there local communities at there own free will rather than forcing people to pay for federal and state programs that they don't even get benefits from? For instance, if someone becomes disabled and can not work can't we have a privatized charity that supports people of that nature rather than big government handling it? Obviously they would have to qualify for it but I think it would make more sense than forcing people to pay into this system threw taxation.

If you will treat taxes as donation, as something that is voluntarily contributed, I don't think that there would be enough funds that would be raised for the benefits that you were saying. You see people would primarily look after their welfare first before the welfare of others. So instead of voluntarily contributing to this privatized charity you are referring to, I think they would rather spend the money on themselves. If you are a taxpayer and you don't get food stamps because you can afford to buy food on the table, it doesn't mean that you are not benefiting from the taxes. Taxes are used to build the roads your car drives on. I really wouldn't mind paying taxes but then it really pisses me off when the government funds are being used for personal gain by corrupt government officials rather than allotting it for public services. It really makes me want not to pay taxes!

I agree, how would the people feel that it is a must to pay taxes. And that it is the people's responsibility if there are selfish people who use it for personal gain?

Yes, somehow the government is responsible to help those who are really poor in the society. But the people in turn should not lean on the government alone to survive. They should at least act and be self reliant. It is not good that people are relying on the government to live, some of the poorest families even have lots of children to feed. They dont even think of their situation and then they will cling to the government and oblige it to help them w/c is also wrong.
