I missed the opening ceremony, so got to listen to the World Cup Anthem made by Shankar-Loy-Ehsan. And I must say it sounded horrible. Just plain shouting and unconnected lyrics. Also the music is not inspiring but even dull at most places. What do you think of this Anthem? Cheers! Ram

Its below average for sure , its starts well to be fair but its disappointing overall.A.R.Rehmaan would have been the best choice even if people didnt like his commonwealth song.In IPL 1 there was much better anthem , this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQCmRj2iwCE i mean.I expected much better song from Shankar Ehsan loy, but the song seemed like they were singing in a school carnival.

Is it really the World cup anthem? I thought just another song for WC. Anyways, SEL are better off in movies. They are not suitable for such songs. The song is no way catchy neither is it motivating. Very disappointing.

And now it is becoming quite annoying as they keep playing it during intervals.

yes even i dont like that the song is strange and i feel there is nothing in it which shows the determination of our players or the love of the nation towards the game of cricket. i feel that a country with such diverse culture like our, we should have stressed more on something which shows our culture, our passion to cricket and things like that. the song is more like a song before going to war. "De ghuma ke" is not used for sports, it is a thing which sounds better with mawalis going for a fight. I still like the Waka Waka song, i read the whole meaning of the song and there was so much meaning to it. It potrayed the history and culture and has a wonderful rhythm to the song.

Yes, and this is the second time we have messed up. The CWG anthem was also not really great. I think we need sports fans to come up with anthems as they will understand the feeling rather than just music aspects. Cheers! Ram

Hi ram, For a fourteen nations world cup this kind of anthem is ok. lol. The same passe style of the trio shouting some irrelevant lines and music subduing voice as if a performance to cheer a group of drunken people. I did not like. And I do not know what others think about it.

Yes it is nothing but just some bunch of boys are shouting together during the match. Being such a huge Music Industry they totally messed up with the 2011 anthem. Although I am not an big fan of that kind of sports related music but I know about melody and lyrics a little bit and I must say words which not touch the soul of the people its nothing but just like junk food. I have one and only my favorite anthem regarding any sport was sung by an Australian Music band for the 1992 world cup I dont remember who it was but the lyrics were: "The world is coming down and the flags are up who's gona be number one who's gona take up the cup. Who'll ruled the world who'll be the king. Its a once in a life time chance. yeah rule the world gotta see who rules the world." The opening line of this song just builds a phenomenal momentum and as the songs carry on you feel real energy in your body, in your soul and in your mind. The anthem make you to dance. But 2011 anthem for me is like there is an Punjabi marriage ceremony is going on and people are trying to pretend very hard to show how happy they are for Groom or Bride.

I agree with your assessment. But there are many other great sports anthems. If you watch UEFA champions league, the opening theme of that is fantastic. If watch World Cup soccer, the Cup of Life sung by Ricky Martin was fantastic. Cheers! Ram
