Lap Band is Now FDA Approved

Lap Band Surgery - Involves placing an inflatable silicone band around the upper portion of the stomach. It reduces the size of the stomach limiting the amount a patient can eat. This procedure is a better alternative to gastric bypass surgery because its reversible.

I have read this on the news lately and it seems that this procedure is now available in the US as of the moment and they lowered the weight of the person that can undergo this procedure. This procedure involves placing an inflatable silicone band around the upper portion of the stomach. Gastric banding effectively reduces the size of the stomach limiting the amount a patient can eat. They said that this is a better alternative compared to gastric bypass surgery because its reversible and can be removed anytime the patient want to. Do you think people should use this method to loosen weight or just exercise. Are people too dependent on science now and is it a good thing for us? For me I don't think I could live with an inflatable silicone band in my stomach. But if it can help people who really needed this kind of device to loose weight then it can be done. As long as there's no risk involved in the health of the patients.

I've been an overweight person for the majority of my life and I've known a lot of people that have had either gastric bypass surgery or lap band. However, I would never make that decision for myself. Instead, I have found that if you are determined to make a change in your life, a change in your diet and also the amount of activity that you have in your life is sufficient to help you to lose weight so that is my method.

Not all diet can work in all t ype of people. - FAster solution like lap band required to safe very obese peeople
NOt all people can do exercise and reduce weight and maintain that weight loss.Because they lifestyle are screw up and their eating habit is bad. They have come to a point , they need immediate solution for their weight which is threathing they life.Hence surgical like lap band is required.Even after surgery , the patient still need to take care their habits.

That is an interesting method here to lose weight. It still requires surgery right? Since they have to put in the lap band in your stomach. I still think this is much pretty high priced as of yet since this is a new technology.

I know two people that have had this done and it's not as effective as they thought it would be....but neither one really watches what they eat either! If you are going to spend that kind of money to lose weight you should follow all the guidelines...you still have to watch your calorie intake. I went with my friend once to get her fluids refilled....not for me!

This is very interesting. However, I still believe that the best way to lose weight is having a healthy diet and exercise. Losing weight is a lifestyle and for me, there are no shortcuts in life. That has always been my motto. A wholesome approach does not only help us lose weight but also helps build character. By choosing a lifestyle of healthy diet and exercise, we are teaching ourselves discipline and patience. I don't know if we can develop discipline with a silicone band on top of our stomach coz we would then depend on the band to make us stop eating. We have minds and are intelligent beings, I don't think we need a silicone band to tell us to stop eating! Plus, no matter how small the amount, our health and weight is not only affected by quantity but also with the quality of what we eat. Even if we eat only a few but the food we intake is high in sugar or fat content then losing weight still wouldn't be effective. Discipline is the key.

I don't trust such things at all. If those things work in the first place, why would they have come up with so many different stuffs in the past? If something does work, they only need to have one, and it will last automatically. Besides, when it comes to losing weight, it's better to lose naturally because we know our body best, and not science.

I was overweight for some time, but I never did any operation because I was scared and financially dependent then and I believe getting fit is something natural. So for me I won't go any lapband surgery as I always monitor my diet from time to time now.
