I currently have 256 MB RAM on my pc and I want to increase it with 2 GB . Now I have some concerns, Do I need some kind of installer or I have to just put the RAM card in the slot ? Can I keep both (256 MB and 2GB) RAM card together in my system ? I would like to use both of them together as I have read somewhere that I can use some part of my RAM as a graphics card.

First of all you should know that your motherboard supports which type of RAM like DDR1,DDR2,DDR3, then buy the ram which your motherboard supports. And you dont need any installer, just put the ram in the slot and gently push it and the ram holder clips should automatically lock in. And you should not use the 256mb ram icoz if it is of lower frequency or speed than the 2gb one, then automatically your 2gb ram will also be slowed or lowered frequency or underclocked

Ok, but nowadays you will not get that 533/400 mhz ram, but you will get 667 or 800 mhz ram. Buy anyone of these 2gb stick and it should cost you anywhere between Rs1300-1500 not more than that, and fit the ram yourself otherwise the installer will take extra money, fitting a ram is very easy. If you have any problem than tell me

I think you can keep both the 256 and the 2gb,it really depends if it has another outlet for it.And i think it's just plug and play.

@Epicoronel - sometimes they have more then one slot its not really something you plug into a USB but something that is inside the computer. If the Computer can take more then one slot for the Ram then take out one. or leave it and only add 1GB of ram. I honestly think that the Computer wont be able to handle 2GB of Ram since it original has 256MBS of Ram which is only a 1/4 of a GB a GB equals 1024MBS lol. So yeah the Computer sounds fairly old or outdated for this time. I am guessing the most for the Computer will be... 512MBS which is half of a GB and 1/4 of 2GB Maybe 1GB can work which is half of what was wanted.

I do have 2 slots available but as the other member explained it might slow down the newer one also so, I would use the newer one only.

Hey Rajesh, Humm... You can upgrade your ram however it all depends if your processor can handle 2GB of ram I have a Netbook and it has 1GB of ram with a intel Atom Processor this Netbook can only take 2GB of Ram at the most. Anymore more of that your computer can get fried haha.. It will destroy the processor Question..? Whats the Processor on the Computer? If anything you dont need to install anything to put in ram. However best if you do it by the Brand of the Ram instead of something different. you can try something else just I would go with the Brand that was original set in place. Just be Careful and if you are unsure then go let some tech person or go to a shop and allow a professional to see it.

The processor on my pc is x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 9 GenuieneIntel~3066 MHz I have read at somewhere that you can allocate some part of your RAM (e.g. 250MB) to be used for graphics purpose. My PC is about 5 years old with windows XP professional OS and 5.1.2600 service pack 3 build 2600 version.

Yeah... I would recommend you to search and see if you can find information on your PC and other people with similar computer or had a formal computer would be able to answer your question. Im sure you rather have a computer then not have a computer at all. (Rather be safe then sorry)

Im not sure if you can use your ram as Graphic card but with Ram it can increase your Computers speed and move smoother and faster. Usually Computers have a different chip that is inside that is mainly for high graphics.. Another Question How old is your Computer?

Installing a ram is very easy as you are from town side buy a ram then go to youtube and i think you would find a video withe ease....and you would have no problem figuring that out if you don't get that on youtube just use one ram of 2 or 1 gb whatever you want to installed and keep the 256 as back up for now... See ram and graphics card are both different so you can't use some part of it as graphics card you would be required to buy a one but using 2gb ram would increase you pc speed certainly

I have removed my current RAM and placed it back so I will do like that. I would buy a 1 GB RAM and it will be from my online earnings.

I think that the best way to do is to bring your computer to the shop where you plan to buy your new ram and let them be the one to install it. While they are in the process of installation, be observant of the things that they do so that the next time that you need to do the same thing, you can do it on your own. Try also to ask them about your concerns. It is like a learning process.

At my locality there are no computer repairing shops , I have to visit town for that. I am confident that I can do it my self so I will do it.
