Is Sreeshanth an asset or liability to the team India?

Hello friends, I'm sure that we Indian's are excited about our first victory over Bangladesh. I am sure that no one would have missed Sreeshanth's bowling. If a small team like Bangladesh can smash his delivery's to boundaries and Six's, what is the fate of India having him on the side and playing against strong teams? Why is he added to the team when he leaks runs and put India under pressure?

He is a very useful Bowler check out the stats in cricinfo. 90% of series he has played India has won that series u see for an example t-20 world cup , south africa first test win , commonwealth bank series against australia and many more . he is india's lucky charm . and if he will play against england india will win it easily otherwise there are some tensions coming up for india..

Hi Karan, Thanks for the comment and I totally agree that he used to be a good bowler initially. But frequent matches he is just leaking runs with more of short balls and bad angles. BTW 50over world cup is more hailed than t-20 so importance will be given to your performance in 50 over World Cup. Anyways lets pray that India does well in the WC and Shree improves his bowling. Go India ... go Shree

Hello vasugi, That Sreeshant was not in the group of 15 was good now he is there all is bad. His ill deportment, extreme nature, showing no respect to the opposite camp are all his "assets". Why Sreeshant, the selection committee could have rather included Ishant Sharma? You said it well that if team like B'desh could punish him beyond measure what would not other teams do? If he fails in the second game too he should make it homeward.

I think he is going to be dropped in the match against England and Chawla will be in as one more spinning option.

As rightly said, his aggressiveness can cause his own problems. He should be more disciplined both in his bowling and behavior :-)

Sreesanth is always going to be a mercurial player. The days he plays well, he is going to be an asset and the days that he does not play well, he is going to be a liability. I actually think he is a better test player than a one day player. Cheers! Ram

He is more like a lottery , when he performs good he benefits the Indian team and performing bad he benefits the opposition. Discipline in his bowling and attitude is must needed . Sreesanth should grab the opportunity to fix his place otherwise there are plenty of young talents waiting .

@krajbg I have to agree with you about the results. If praveen kumar was playing I think it would have been better for team India. Best of luck to India for winning the world cup.

Well he definitely is an asset. If you analyze the match between India and BD, he was the only fast bowler who was swinging the ball. When you try to swing the ball there is a chance that you will go for runs.Positive thing is he managed to swing the ball on a pitch where there was no lateral movement for bowlers and no swing of the air too.As an opening bowler your job is not to contain but to get early wickets and that's exactly what Sreesanth was trying to do.He could have easily ended up with 2-3 wickets in his opening spell. If he swings the ball with little more control and will cool head he can be very useful against England ,SA and WI.

Dear Vasugi, Sreesanth is a good bowler. He is the next best option after Praveen Kumar. I am sure that he is a better option than Ishant Sharma. He actually did bowl well against Newzealand team. But the fact that he lacks that bit of extra pace is going to hamper his bowling. Against Bengaldesh, it was one over where he gave away 20 odd runs that spoiled killed his confidence. It has happened to all. If you notice the trend so far, the opening bowlers are always getting smashed for runs. I guess, the slow nature of the pitches help the batsmen, when a medium pacer comes on as the ball comes nicely to the bat. Zaheer Khan now has the experience and knows how to bowl in these conditions. I am sure all the bowlers will be put under pressure at some point or the other. Lets not come to conclusions too early about a single bowler. I guess now, we just have to hope that India gets its bowling options right. All said and done, this is India's best options. We just have to go with it. Hope the bowlers perform under these trying conditions. All the bowlers need the support of their fans more than ever now.... Share your views... Balu.

I think right now India has less choices in bowling field so its better to give him confidence instead of criticize. He done good job in the first match when others were not doing well. So I think being little exposed to other teams sreeshanth can be gift package for India.
