We hired a cab and a driver to take us on trip to a destination around 4 hours away from our home. And our deal was that we would pay him 7 rupees per km. None of us knew how many kms the entire trip would turn out to be. So the agent said it might approximately be 600 kms..so it might be 4200 bucks approximately.. At the end of the trip, we had covered only 428 kms.. it should have ideally cost only 3000 bucks. But this agent demanded to have 4200. Do you think this is justified? What should I do to save my 1200 bucks. (Its not just about money but also about being duped and cheated)Afterall he would have charged us more if we had exceeded 600 kms, he wouldnt have been satisfied with only 4200 bucks...

You were meant to pay 7 rupees per km. Your travel agent told you the journey was around 600km so you of course expected to pay 4,200 rupees. You must have been surprised that the journey was in fact 428km. You have been cheated I am sorry to say. I know he would have charged you more if it had been 700km. Maybe the cab driver was the one that overcharged you. It could also be the travel agent giving you a charge for arranging the trip. It seems unreasonable to me.

Exactly! Thats why Im so bugged over this whole issue... But its so difficult to fight with people sometimes! This small issue spoiled all the fun we had on the trip. It was by far one of my best trips except for this extra charges part..

That's bad.Whenever you go out its better to keep there owners number with you and in written that this much travel will cost you this much.Every car displays how many km it has traveled.Just check that and make sure to ask driver about before starting.I don't know much about travelling by taxi's as we always take our own car wherever we go.We like the freedom of travelling wherever and when we feel like.I love travelling by car instead of trains.

We had checked the kms thats how we knew it was only 400 something kms...and not 600km..but the agent insisted we pay him 4200/- and my dad didnt want to start a fight so he paid off!

I would also have not been happy if that had happened as it was not part of the agreement. You could have just got out of the cab and not paid them anything as there was no written agreement so how were you sure what they said was true?

Yes i know, but my dad paid him off to avoid starting a fight! I got to know later that he has already paid off!

Ya this thing happened with me too when I went vacationing to Andamans last year in October. The taxi manager was asking for very high rates so we just paid him initially and after that we explored a little and found another taxi agency that was charging us just right.
