Today, Sen. Chuck Schumer announced new legislation to fix our broken background check system. This is said to be a huge undertaking. The legislation announced today would take the two key steps many have been calling for to stop dangerous people from getting guns:
1. Get all names of people who should be prohibited from buying guns into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS);
2. Require a background check for every gun sale in America.
Would you agree that this is our best chance for real, credible reform that could keep Americans safe from gun crime?

Actually there is something that has supported that belief for the last 2 centuries, the 10th amendment. And if we are going to go on numbers, what about cars? how many people do cars kill per day in the country? We don't really see much in the way of national traffic laws being pushed...and for the same reason, the federal government does not have the authority to do it.

"If these mayors want to pass licensing and registration laws, then they can act with in their own states through their state legislators to do it."
That pretty much says it all. I don't give a crap what some mayor in a wacknut California town wants when I'm living in New Jersey.
I don't know why some people can't focus on their local and state laws. Gladys, why must you fight the will of the people and try to change laws in states you don't live in, pay taxes in, or even visit? What do you think gives you that right, because the constitution sure doesn't.
