Here in Wisconsin for every mediocre teacher in the classroom (and teachers all know and have complained on Facebook about at least one) there are several talented, passionate, highly qualified teachers in the classroom. But the reality is they are also behind the counter at Starbucks...or selling cars. For each position there are 60 applicants. I have absolutely no problem with the term "scab."
This was posted by a friend of mine, who is a certified teacher, and would love to work in her field.. but sells cars instead. The fact is, there are many certified teachers, and people with teaching degrees that are either unemployed or working in other jobs.
Yeah, there is talk of having National Guard troops volunteer as replacement workers, and I'm sure most of them would do a fine job.. however, I do think the first dibs should go to people with teaching degrees... and I doubt they will have any problems finding takers.

Yep, I agree. Those teachers that are not doing their jobs all deserve to be fired and the ones that are in other jobs due to not being able to find work in their chosen field should be offered first dibs. Now if the students all took this amount of time off from school to protest or just plain skip, they would be expelled or suspended and recieve failing grades.

I think those teachers that aren't working as teachers should have a chance. I heard yesterday that 32% of 8th grade students in Wisconsin cannot read up to standard. And the teachers have the nerve to strike and make demands?! They are not doing their jobs. Give others a chance, fire the picketing teachers that are depriving children of an education and let some of those car salesmen and other teachers have a chance at it.

That's a state average, Dragon. In Milwaukee Public Schools, the rate of reading comprehension in high school is 5%.

They should be the first ones hired. I think the unions in keeping teachers who are lazy slobs, and have o business being teachers is wrong. Students cannot learn from dummies. All needs to be done is to fire those medicore teachers and get soe qualified ones instead. By the way, there are unions for many trades but if a train wrecks or a building falls down because the union would not allow the company to get rid of the lazy workers who made the foul up, well who is to blame? It is past that protecting wages, to do not fire our members even if they do not do a good job.

Like I said before. As soon as this strike started, or even when there was talk of a strike, I would have posted all the jobs so I'd have a stack of applications before the first teacher reached the picket line. I'd give them a not so friendly call and say "You're not sick, get back to work or your fired, I'll be interviewing your replacement tomorrow.

It is terrible that there are many qualified teachers in other jobs because they couldn't find a teaching position. So they are getting rid of mediocre teacher and going to employ replacements. It is an excellent idea to employ as teachers people like your friend that are qualified teachers not in teaching. They would all be delighted to get a teaching position I am sure. The national guard troops wouldn't a have the necessary skills and knowledge to teach. I think that educational standards should rise in Wisconsin if the teachers get in these empty posts. When there is a job and 60 teachers apply only 1 will be successful. All people with a teaching degree should apply to the replacement strategy.
