When a business gone bankruptcy, it is hard to dispute a fee that is not supposedly occur to you. Hollywood Video gone bankruptcy more than a year ago. A lady went to a local store to return the game and video on that day when that was the last day operation. Everything was okay and done deal. A year later, she received a collector's letter for a fee of $240 for a overdue fee. She was like "what". Something that she never thought that ever happen. When she call the 1 - 800 number to ask what happen. They said that she return the game and video late, and after a whole year overdue, and the interest accrue on this late fee, now it is accumulated to over $200. Can you believe that happen? So, how would you suggest that she handle this matter?

I think she needs to call that customer service number back, and ask to speak to a supervisor or someone in charge, and explain what happened. To me it seems like a computer error, somehow the video and game did not get returned into the system correctly and now they think she owes the money. Hopefully if she talks to someone with a little more authority, they can straighten it out. If they are still unwilling to correct the issue, i would suggest contacting the BBB (better business bureau) and filing a complaint, and see if they can help her resolve this. If she returned the items, she should not be responsible for a years worth of late fees for their error.
