I personally have done a few and I love them. Of course they never want you to talk about them, which is cool with me. I am about to have one for my new website. So my partner and I can get a feel for what people think. They honest reactions to what we are trying to do here.
So have you ever been in a focus group? How much were you paid?

Hi. 34momma. I have never been in a focus group before. I have participated in many surveys that were online and via postal mail too. I think that it would be fun to get a chance to be in a focus group. I hope that you will enjoy having a focus group on your new website.

I've been in a couple, I can't remember how much I got paid. I think I received some discounts on something local though. The focus group was interesting though, its just as important to listen as to contribute because it helps you to understand different points of view by people of the same value system.

I did one a few years ago for miracle whip (where it has been so long, i don't think it will matter that i am talking about it LoL) I got asked to join it after completing a survey through one of the survey programs i participate in. They sent me out two jars of miracle whip, and i was to use one for one week, then use the other for the next. After the two weeks there was a date set up to have a discussion online with people about what we thought of the two different formulas. (i believe week 2's jar was the original, and week 1's jar was a version of the new dressing made with olive oil instead of vegetable oil....at least that is the best i could figure out, because with in a year, they had the new olive oil one on the shelves at the store)
As to what i got paid for the experience, i made like $3 for the initial survey, and then got a check from them for $15 i think after the discussions and what not. Plus two full sized jars of miracle whip LoL.

I have been to several and I have been paid both by check and or cash, depending on the study and or company.
Thus far the ones I have been to have paid me very well and the discussion was very interesting. There was one that I had to go and get two competitors insurance quotes then participate in the focus group.
There was another that I really enjoyed which was a 90 minute discussion about retirement.
I enjoy them because they are very engaging and each time I learn something new.
