Living at the Beach

I want to live at the beach. I am only in my late 40's so I am not ready to retire but I want to live close to the ocean. I am trying to convince my boss to let me work virtually so I can do this. My daughter is in community college and has one more year before she transfers to a University. My son is a junior in high school so we can just transfer him. Then he can do an online classes at the community college out there. I do not want to wait until I retire to move to the beach. I want to be able to enjoy it while I am still able to. Do you think this is crazy? Would you ever consider doing something drastic like this?

Wow, that has always been my dream! I watched the movie "The Last Song" yesterday and again I was reminded of the peaceful location and serene sounds of nature not to mention the twits of sea gulls, the whistling wind which caused grandiose waves, the evening breeze which soothes your skin, as well as cool shades of palm trees. Its a perfect place for a rest house where one can relax and re-energize as well as revitalize and refresh one's mind after tedious weeks or months of work. Its the best time to invigorate and relieve the stress, pain, and aches the outside world has offered you. Im in my late 20s and I'm sure in God's time, He will grant me the desire of my heart - to have a simple shade on the sea side.

It's a great dream to have and I hope it is fulfilled for you. There is nothing like living near the ocean. The sound of the waves, the breeze off the coast - it just lifts your spirits and calms you.

Yes, you're right! Living near the sea is as if you have experienced living in heaven which I consider a paradise on earth. :-)

No, it's not crazy, neither is it drastic! I think it's wonderful. I love the beach, the sound of the waves and the breeze. It's so peaceful and beautiful, especially at sunset. You feel like everything is right in the world. You enjoy the beauty of nature. Sigh! I am 5 hours away from the nearest beach :(

I live 3 hours from a beach and I hate it. I cannot do a day trip.

I sincerely hope that you will find a virtual job that you can do in your home by the beach. Guess for now, short vacations there have to suffice :)

You could work from home by the beach using your computer. Homes with a sea view do tend to be expensive. Your son might be able to move to a school situated by the coast. I used to live in a village in Kent 20 minutes drive from the sea. I hadn't passed my driving test in those days and so traveled by train, bus and on my bike. I moved to Somerset six years ago. At first I lived in a house overlooking the fields on the edge of a coastal town. Last year I moved to my bungalow a little nearer to the beach, only seven minutes drive. I would like to live in a tropical country. My home country is cold and the beach is crowded in summer.

One of my cousins lives in Western Australia. Her idea of a crowded beach has five people on it. My local beach has sinking mud and dangerous tides but it is very picturesque. I hope that you will find your ideal beach.

Yes, that would be my plan. To be able to work virtually using my computer at home. I do not like crowds either so it would have to be in a less populated coastal area.

Hi. TrvlArrngr. I don't think your idea of living on the beach is drastic at all. If I had the ambition I would live at the beach too. I think that this would be so much of fun. There is nothing wrong with wanting to have something precious while you are able to. I hope that your boss will accept your inquiry. I myself, am not that much of a beach person. I love the beach, don't get me wrong. But, I am just terrified of living so close to waters, especially with my kids. They are young now. Your kids are much older, I believe that this would be perfect for you! I hope that everything works out just fine for you! Take care.

Yes, living by the sea is great for relaxation. It soothes the mind and when the mind is relaxed, the body is also relaxed. It also helps you think more clearly.

I wish my boss would see it that way! I will keep trying to persuade her to let me work from there.

Living in the beach is cool and relaxing. If only life is as simple as that and I didn't have to worry about work and money. If given the chance I would love to stay in the beach but not totally live in there where it's far away from work.. ;)

Exactly! I have to work in order to be able to live at the beach and my only option is finding a virtual job. I hope to one day be able to do this.

Crazy is the last word on my mind if I hear someone wanting to live near the beach. I live in a tropical country. Beaches are accessible but no matter how easy I can get to it, I would still want to live near it. The sound of the waves is so soothing. The light breeze on your face is refreshing. The feel of the sand on your feet is wonderful. The sight of the sunrise and sunset is breath taking. I know it sounds cliche but life is not measured on how many breaths you take but the moments that take your breath away.

What a wonderful saying! I am going to remember that. Life is not measured on how many breaths you take but the moments that take your breath away! I love it! and how true that is!
