Is it worth your wild to open a Upromise account? Do you earn very much? I have 3 small kids and I figure every bit could help. But what if they don't want to go to college then what? Plus I'm leary of attaching my debit card number to any "Program". Though i had just seen one thru SB that would earn points twards online games BUT again I don't want to give my card number to just anyone. So what has your experience been with this program? Is it worth my wild? Or are there any other similar marketing programs you can get rewarded for w/o opening another credit card?

Clark Howard, a respected economist, endorses the UPromise program so I'm pretty sure it is legitimate. I never did this because my in laws helped with college expenses but if I did expect to pay for college I would definitely enroll in the program. If your children don't want to go to college you can probably use it for a few classes for yourself. I doesn't cost you anything so why not?

I know it won't accumulate to much because I don't buy most of the products that sponsor Upromise unless they are on a very good sale.

I considered it when my boys were in high school but like you, I don't buy those products. They're too expensive! I can buy store brands and put the difference aside and save more than I would with UPromise. I think the program is for the "normal" people who buy brand names and don't have to pinch pennies as we do.

I just registered with them and after reading all the comments below changed my mind. Now I cannot find anywhere on their website how to close my account. What I dislike the most about their site is you cannot even see the "pending" rebates. The time tables are at a minium of one month just to see the rebates??? You would think with all those stores and them having access to your debit card, they could post the pending rebates so you can at least see it working. I belonged to other rebate sites and made decent money but it was for online only and thought it would be great to earn cash back offline. They are owned by SallieMae and reputable so was not worried about giving them my debit card number. Another thing they did was push their credit card, hard selling. This program was huge when it first came out. Everyone was trying to save for college! Now every store has their own way of giving back to the customer. You still looking for good rebate programs since your post was three years ago?

I've had a Upromise account forever.. but I'm not sure if I use it anymore. I actually forgot my password years ago, and since I no longer have the same e-mail address, I basically have no way of getting into the account. Last I looked I only had a few bucks saved up for each kid anyway, so I don't see how that would be helpful. If I could get into it now, I would link my debit card.. I feel it's a safe enough site. However I don't really use the shopper's cards anymore since I do most of my shopping at Walmart and rarely buy the name brand items that put money on the Upromise account. I debated starting another Upromise account.. but if I'm only going to earn a couple bucks between now and when my oldest is off to college (another 5 years) then what's the point? I tell you one thing.. I'm going to a relatively cheap college right now, it's even cheaper than a community college.. and I'm still paying about $10,000 per semester.. so what good is a couple bucks gonna do?

When Kathryn was little I got a Upromise account but I never did attach it to my debit card. The reason that I didn't attach it to my debit card was because of the fact that I am leary about doing that at all. I attached it to the various cards that I use at the grocery store. I really haven't earned a lot into that account in the eight years that I've been a member with them, but I figure that every little bit does make a difference.

I have a Upromise account now for almost six years and so far have not gained anything worthwhile. I do have 140k in college loans but I saw no harm in opening an account. I do hope someday to benefit something, as after all I have been contributing quite a bit to the whole loan world.
