Whom To Blame, When A Team Cannot Defend 338 Runs???

India

India score 338 runs from 49.5 overs. Of course, team India did lose 7 wickets in a jiffy, and missed a run in the end....But all said and done, 338 is very much defensible. Then what happened? I would like to say that, the Indian team got complacent. Especially Mr. Dhoni. He was waiting for things to happen. He never tried anything to stop singles. The moment England took the batting power play, England lost three wickets quickly. This happened because England had to do something different to score runs. Well, again this happened, because "England took the powerplay". Dhoni did not do anything...!!!!.. Common Dhoni, enough of leaving things to the last minute.. Bowling has been India's weak point. No actual strike bowlers. Again, yesterday's match proves that Ashwin is always a better choice that Piyush Chawla. People may argue that, Chawla has better variety. I beg to differ. And anyways, have the Indian bowlers forgotten the value of yorkers???. The Indian innings saw only one and amazingly, it produced a wicket...!!! The Indian team should seriously think about going in with five bowlers and six batsmen. In these placid wickets, they can use all the specialist bowlers they can use. Trust the batsmen to do their job...!!! England can take heart out of their last performance. England should have won it to start off. They had wickets in hand. But cricket is a funny game. But the fact that, England were able to draw a high scoring match, will give them a lot of confidence. Their bowling and fielding was as bad as India's. Tim Bresnen was exceptional compared to others. Strauss batted well. He was out to an edge from Zaheer. But luckily for him no one heard it because of the noise in the stadium. But one cannot ake away the fact that he played well. He played risk free cricket. Of course Dhoni did not apply any pressure for Strauss to take any risks (:P) I hope that Dhoni and team India get their act right, if they want to win the cup. Share your views... Balu.

I would blame the captain only. Because he is included while the selection is going on. he can pick the bowlers he wish, dont he get 5 good bowlers to limit the opposition without scoring 300+ in 50 overs that to when chasing under pressure?? and the field placement was not at all good. The whole team thought that they had won the match even before they started bowling. that should not be the mentality. In cricket everything is possible. silly minded cricketers should change their mind, captain himself should boos the team and be able to tell them how serious this match is. here India plays in a manner, that they had already won the cup.

I will not agree with you venkit. Dont blame Dhoni completly. If bowlers & fielders are not bowling well then what a captain can do???. I accept that Dhoni have some problens with the field placement ,it was not a good one. Indian bowling is poor,if there is 5 bowler ,then some time Englan would have won the match. India have part time bowlers who are performing well in the recent matches. And remember Indian batting is more stronger. currently Sreesant was the available one ,if he wat there it would have been very easy for England. And if Dhoni takes 5 bowlers and indian batting was not much great, everyone including you will start blaming him .

Hey balu, A nice huge paragraph which describes the negatives and few positives of the match. But remember game is a game, be it cricket be it any other game. Teams do well and they also fall. When they do well we all appreciate but when they do bad we complain. I agree on things like we have a bad bowling line up and some lazy fielding from Harbhajan, Zaheer and few others... The fact remains for any team the same, when your oppositions are doing good and they are determined to win there is nothing that can stop them.. even in the England team except couple of bowlers others did a bad job.. it was only the first 3 batsman were determined to win, others like Collingwood being a senior player stood for a short time.. I saw it was just the mind set that goes on the field while you are playing... when I don't play I can say 100 things but when you are standing in front of thousands of people, you want to think what your mind says that minute... 338 is any day a superb score for team to put up... since the batsman went on hitting well they found their ways to score.. but when India got their break through they figured the way at least not to lose the match.. India definitely has to work on their bowling first, Dhoni chose Piyush because he did a great job against the Australians during the warm up game on the same Bangalore field, so any captain wants someone who has done a quality work on the same field and when it comes to fielding there is nothing much Dhoni can do until individual players put in their effort.. everything is fair in love and game so I hope team India will learn their lessons and try to work on their small negatives so that they don't get into a bad situation.. Go India gooo :_)

Dear Vasugi, I am afraid I have to dis agree with you. Yes cricket is a game and it should be treated like one, and all those things... But you have to understand one thing my friend, after scoring 338, when did Dhoni attack?? When did he put pressure on the England batsmen. Yes, Andrew Strauss and Ian Bell played well.. But they were never under any sort of pressure. What Dhoni did was, he waited for the batsmen to commit mistakes. And this is not just a one off incident. He has been doing it for a long time. No one realizes it because the Indian team was winning. And of course our bowling did not help...!!! If you look, the moment, the England team took the batting power play, they lost 3 wickets. This was because they had to do something different. Why defend with 338 on the score board, when you can afford to attack, and put pressure on the oppositiion. And then if they win, well... then ... Well Played...!!! Share your views... Balu.

I actually think it was a very good match. I think England have a very strong batting line up and they gave a great chase. But having said that I think Indian bowling and fielding performance was poor. I think Dhoni's decision making was also questionable in giving a bowler like Piyush the 49th over to bowl. Also Munaf showed a basic lack of common sense by pitching a ball up to a number 9 batsman instead of letting him smell the leather. Cheers! Ram

the great responsible only goes to captain MS Dhoni due to his poor fielding placement. England has no difficult in taking the singles and two so there is no need to take risks.Thats the main cause for our loss. Any way Zak fight back for us and bring tie for us unless we almost lost it...
