Affiliate Marketing

I stumbled across the term "Affiliate Marketing" a year or so ago. I looked at it and decided that it had scam written all over it. I find a niche market, set up a web page, write some drivel, identify a key word that will highlight my site(s) on Google and then "drive" visitors to the adverts displayed on the web page. My reward is a percentage of any advertising revenues. Earlier today a video of a clean cut young Englishman appeared not in my spam box but in my inbox. He started the usual litany of "I make $1,000 a day from my sites" then offered to do the same for me by selling me for "only" $47 a "wealth creation system" which will make we wealthier than Gates and Trump together for a maximum of 3 hours work per day. I'll even get wealthy in my sleep! I believe him, he does make a vast amount of money; but not from affiliate marketing but from relieving gullible suckers of their $47. In any case, why bother buying the sysem, why not just do it for myself or is there a magic button that only Marketeers can own? I have no doubt that someone somewhere is making lots of money. But most I suspect lose rather than gain. Have you tried affiliate marketing. Did/does it make you any money? Am I just a doubting Thomas? Shall I order my Rolls Royce now as there's an 18 month waiting list.

I can't believe you've just told everyone how to do it! You could have put that information into an ebook and sold the 'secret' for $$$s. I've never tried affiliate marketing so I perhaps shouldn't mock. It rings noisy alarm bells for me too. Anything which sounds too good to be true almost certainly is, particularly true where internet earnings are concerned.

You are right. How can I have been so silly?! I am not mocking but I just feel that tis is all a little too good to be true. Want to buy an e book on how not to get rich quick?

Hm, which amazes me more, the thought that people fall for this stuff, or the fact that there's an 18 month waiting list for a car that nobody can afford....

They can't afford unless they sell lots and lots of $47 "wealth schemed" Dawn. Wanna buy something useless for let's say $40? LOL.

NOOOO...I wouldn't order the Rolls (unless you figure out where Momma lives) ...and...NOOOO... I wouldn't give him my $47 either. He's depending on the "majorly lazy" people...like those who come here & ask "How can I make money here???" If it is your paranoia P1key, I'm suffering from the same disease!!! You're smart enough to learn how to do it on your own!!! Anyway...think a moment...if it was that good, we'd be reading about the "suddenly rich" people who tried it!!!!

Very true LadyM. I suspect that many of these schemes depend on people scamming their friends as well. I'll stick to what I know I think.

I think that affiliate marketing is a great way for people to start earning online as they can earn without even having a website as free blogs and social networking sites allow you to build a bit of a customer base. Ideally if you want to earn a living online, then you need your own website and products to sell. I myself have joined many affiliate programs over the last 4 to 5 years, but only ones that I truly believe in. For example, there are many businesses in my industry that have affiliate programs. We send out a newsletter to our list every month with our new products, sales, articles etc as well as events. Some of these events or products are from other companies who we affiliates for. We would be promoting them anyway, so why not get a couple of hundred dollars or whatever for doing so. This also gives us an opportunity to earn from our large overseas list who would not buy directly from us. The way that I see it is that you cannot lose from affiliate marketing as you can do it for free. I do not get involved in get rich quick schemes that are everywhere in the affiliate world, or pay for keywords or anything like that. I only promote sites that I know are providing true value for the customer too. Just put the Roller idea on hold for now mate! LOL

You have the advantage in that you have products to sell Bill. Thus you have a reason why folk might visit your site in the first place. I have held the roller - maybe a dehydrator instead! I saw a pancake recipe on your website that takes 36 hours to "cook". Nothing like planning a couple of days ahead! LOL.

True, but we did not always have products and did once upon a time just do affiliate marketing with virtual products. Not all that successfully though! I am glad to hear that you have been looking through our site. Those were the pancakes that I mentioned here that we were going to have on Christmas morning! But they took too long and we left them for our house sitter who loved them! We do not dehydrate very often, most of the time that creations are made in there these days, it is for videos or recipes for the newsletter/website.

Affiliate marketing itself is not a scam, a lot of people make money that way. But to think that it is easy and requires no effort is really not true! It is a cut throat business, and you need to work very, very hard to succeed, but once you do, it is well worth it. So do not knock affiliate marketing itself, but don't believe people who will teach you how to do it either. You can learn it on your own, without paying anything, just by doing research online. So do that instead! You will not get wealthy in your sleep, but you can make nice amounts after a while!

I forgot to add that I have made money off affiliate marketing myself as well, so I do know it can be done.

I am not dismissing it as a non-starter, but I do feel that it is sold as an easy option. If it was that easy we'd all be doing it. If you are making money at it that's great, but I find the marketing very dodgy.

Almost sounds like the old 'get rich stuffing envelopes' deal...only modernized for the times. Go ahead with the Rolls order. Maybe you'll hit the lottery between now and when it's ready? Oh, and after you get it...can I borrow your car? LOL

Affiliate marketing works great for those who know what they are doing and put alot of time into it. You have to do the usual, like get your sites in good positions on the search engines, get your sites to the right audiences, pick the right products that pertain to your site they have found on the search engine with their keywords. It is a trial and error thing. You keep on until you see what works best for you. No one is going to start making $1,000 a day, I don't believe unless they are an expert and have had the site up for quite a while. I wish you the best, but get ready to work some serious hours.

As I am someone who will not even consider asking my friends to be my referrals anywhere, I can't really see me making a business out of affiliate marketing. What irritates me is the fact that I get spammed by people that say how easy it is. The truth is always different.

Oh gosh you hit the nail right on the head. Affiliated marketing was going to be my first online earning venture a year ago. I did a great deal of research and without investing a dime I figured out it was a total scam. Shame really as I thought I could actually give it a go! LOL, no need to wait for they Rolls as I heard I was number 17, which will not be delivered until the year 3010, so my own great grand kids will not be able to enjoy it!
