Play Xbox 360 in HD on LCD TV?

So my Xbox 360 came with composite cables, and I would like to make use of them. I have an LCD T.V which has the proper hook ups for composite cables, but when I plug it in, it looks exactly the same, and it's still set on 360p. If I try changing the setting to any higher then 360p, then it freezes. But if it didn't work at all, why would it still show up through the channel on the TV specifically for the composite cables? is there a way to make the quality better, or is it already a little better? And yes I tried messing with the switch on the cables that goes from TV to HDTV.

Your LCD TV has to be HD Ready to be used. You can see this if your TV has a HD Ready or Full HD Sticker on it. If it doesn't support that, then you can't do anything to play in HD. The reason is, that older TVs don't have any support for resolutions higher than 640x480. The newest TVs can have a resolution of 1280x760 or 1920x1080. They're 760p and 1080p respectively.

It's not HD ready, but why does it even have composite outlets then?

Composite is not the same as COMPONENT. You can use a component cable to get HD Quality resolutions on the TV. Composite is the older one. They're in form of RGB, Scart, etc.

Sorry, I meant component.
