The tied match - positive for England.

The tied match between India and England on Sunday at Bangalore has proved great positive for England. After this match they must have started believing that they can win the world cup which has eluded them so far and a great shame for the country which has invented the game. They reached the finals on three previous occasions, 1979,1987 and 1992, but could not win the trophy. This year although the team is in great shape and won the Ashes series in Australia after a number of years, nobody took them seriously to win the trophy in Indian sub continent conditions. They have declared to the world through the tied match that they are ready to grab the trophy this time around. Nobody expected England to play the way they did after their disappointing 6-1 defeat in Australia and lack luster win against minnows Holland under flood lights and the might of Harbhajan and Co.. But for the last moment collapse of their middle order they were in the site of conquering mighty Indian score of 338 in just 45 or 48 overs. This I feel is great positive for England and they can now set their eyes on coveted trophy. What do you feel?

I think it was a great match for both sides. There were times in the match when both sides seemed to have lost the match. Around the 40th over mark England were firm favorites, but then Powerplay brought India back into the contest. So I think it was a positive for both teams. Cheers! Ram

You are right ram both sides can take positives and negatives from the match but I feel England are bigger gainers in terms of confidence.

You are right this time around there is no clear favorite to win the cup. For the last 2-3 occasions Australia had been clear favorites and they proved it right by winning the cup in three consecutive times.

When the Indians finished the batting and scored a huge target, i thought surely indians would win the match as there previous match also a huge target for Bangladesh and won it. But after England started to bat my confidence decreased slightly, though i thought indians can win the match. Around 45th over of England batting i surely thought that India will win the match but at last it ended in an tie. England had worked hard to make the match draw and earn atleast equal points.

Both sides deserve credit for securing one point in that match. Both sides lost and won but What I wanted to stress here is the confidence of England must have been raised tremendously after that match as they now must have started believing in themselves that they can achieve any target under any conditions.

Superb match... But we cant under rate india also. They had made tie when the match went out of hand... Its brilliant come back by Indians esspecially Zak... There is some concern lagging in the bowling department for India. Same way England are also good team to win the world cup.But they are playing with one match winner missed.Thats is gr8 down for england. Eoin morgan is a gr8 player at middle and lower order and he can win any match at any cirumstances single handly.. England is missing the service of gr8 man... Lets wait and see wats coming.. It will be India vs Pak this year final...Its sure..

hi friend... actually this is a shame performance from india. because we are having plenty of runs to win. but our bowlers didnt performed well. it causes mattch tied. and from our batting side dhoni took a wrong decission. that is he should wait for after kohli. but he came at 5th wicket. that time we are having 11 overs behind. so it is better to send yusuf to bat. but he didnt. if dhoni's decissions are like this then it is impossible to win the world cup to india.

They won the last t-20 world cup and did so very emphatically. They are serious contenders here too. Their bowling seems to be weak and like India are inconsistent. In Pieterson, Strauss, bell and Collingwood they have good players and will prove difficult to beat.India needed a jolt and this wake up call should do the trick. To India's credit they did not throw in the towel and fought back to tie the match, that is a good sign indeed. Captain Dhoni is very forthright in his views and openly accepted that slow fielders in the team are another cause for worry. It should also be said that India were well in line for another 30-50 runs before the collapse ensued. In future matches they will do well to be ruthless till the very end.

That's right moksha it is a wake up call for India not to take the things for granted. Everybody including Indian players must have thought that 339 is too much of a target to be defended against England but that was not so and India seriously considers winning this time they should improve their balling and fielding.

well i think most sad team would be england. although i support india, but i must say, that day england was playing far better than india. we batted well, but our bowling is the main thing that we need to think about. i think we have a very weak bowling line and that showed. even against bangladesh we allowed to score them a lot and that is the problem. i hope we can do better in the matches to come or else it would be difficult for us to win. england on the other hand deserved to win. they played well. and to chase such a big total on a pitch with was helping the spinners a bit and the support was for india they did a good job.

My feelings are that England was plain unlucky and the Indians were very very lucky to have got that shared point. Don’t really know if England can make it to the finals, but if this is the way Indians bowl, they need to do some serious soul-searching and come up with better ideas to restrict the opponent. As it is, 338 was no small total yet that looked indefensible!

Surely, its a positive result for England. The were chasing & scored 338 runs in pressure. Morally the victory goes for England. In the mean time its a negative blow for the Indians. The were unable to defent a good total of 338,also there was some umpiring errors.

Dear Msdivkar, When a low scoring match is tied, the team defending it gains confidence, because they were able to successfully defend it. And on the contrary, when a high scoring match like this is tied, the chasing team gains confidence. Yes this has proved that there are no clear favorites for this world cup. Every one is in with a chance. This is good for the game. I really hope that Dhoni learns his lesson, not take it for granted any large total, with the bowling attack that team India possesses. I hope he attacks more and not wait for things to happen, till the last moment. Honestly speaking, I am getting tired of these high scoring matches, where the bowlers get taken apart. I hope to see pitches where there is some assistance for the bowlers. Win the toss, bat first, post a huuuge total, bowl the opposition out... Matches are getting stereo typed. Share your views... Balu.

I think India should improve their bowling and fielding. They have a feel of winning the game after scoring 300 plus runs. That was the same reason why the batting collapsed and gave Strauss two life on the match. I had cleared heard Strauss nicking one to Dhoni (on TV). But they didn't appealed. I don't know why they hadn't. And the third umpire was also rude to INDIA. Anyhow India has to use three seam bowlers and one spinner. MY FAVORITES are: Zaheer, SreeSanth, Munaf and Harbhajan. Sreesanth cannot be denied a chance for his poor performance against Bangladesh. If he is let down, all others too had to be let down for thinking they have 300 plus on the board. Each and every bowler should be dropped. At least Zaheer struck well.

ya things have become worse for india. England now almost sure to get to quarter finals
