Working at home full time is killing my social life

I thought I would have more time socializing when I started my WAH full time. But as it appears it's engulfing all my time. I do hope that all my efforts and hard work will come to fruition because I am shutting myself out of my social responsibilities. I don't even want to answer the phone anymore.

Oh my yes, and I do understand. While off-line workers clock off the time clock many work at home members are still catching up for the day. It is a never ending process and one does not earn if not online. We do have to take time to balance a bit as life is short and we will not get a chance to get the time back. But I understand about the phone as I sometimes do not want to answer either because what is suppose to be a 1 - 3minute call can turn into one full hour and add that with two and half the day is gone. I do hope you can capture a bit of balance and that you efforts are certainly fruitful. Best of luck to you!

I've been able to work from home and I've been able to make a great amount of money, plus it hasn't messed with my social/normal life at all. The sites that I "work" for have allowed me to make more than I ever thought I would!! Plus, I can work when & where I want to, when I feel like it! :D Sorry it hasn't been working out for y'all...

Do you have set work hours, or are you on call all the time? If you can, let your clients know you are only available during certain hours. Get call display and/or a separate work line, and refuse to abswer client calls during off hours. Get call display for your cell, and let work calks go to voicemail, if you must keep the phone turned on.

I don't have a set work hours but I have a quota for the day and if I fall short of it in any given day then I have to make up the next day. I am freelancing and I have just started my own website, you can check it in my profile. I should have waited until I had finished my current freelance job.

I never thought that being a work at home mom would take up all of a mother's time. I'm not sure if you do customer service or clerical work or sales or whatever but I think that maybe you should consider setting up certain "work hours" and then adhere to them. That way once the day is done it's done. Turn off your phone once your work day is done. That's what I would do. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Even though I work online everyday I make time for my family and friends. I will go out and spend the day with my friends and family. I will drop what I am doing and come back to it later. Work will be there for me when I get back. I talk on the phone and work as well or just take a break and talk to whoever calls me. You can pick back up where you left off after your done talking on the phone.

Hello Strawberry, that's good for you. I have just started this project so it still needs a lot of work. Hopefully I will pick up soon.

Everything will fall in its place. Take your time at things and always make sure you give yourself time as well. Its nice to work online but its also nice to take a break from work online. I am not always fast at doing things but I work online a lot. About everyday I am always doing something and running around catching up on house work.

Tell me about it! Full time SAHM....and homeschooling...I seem to have lost anything to do with socializing...unless you count meeting other kids and their parents as socializing. Some days it gets to me....but most days I'm fine. Fine because I've stopped thinking about it.

I am wondering what WAH do you have there. I think it is hard to really earn online. It robs you of your time indeed since you need to be online all the time. But the only advantage you have there is that you are always home which makes you much safer than the rest of us commuting daily to our employers.

Hi Jemina, I'm rather curious. What are you doing at home now? I would very much like to do that, but I'm kinda in between. In a job that is flexible where I can choose to work from home, but not fully working for myself (like in my own business). So I'm wondering what you are doing that is cutting down yo9ur social life.

If there is proper balance in work life and personal life, there is never any problem. Problem comes when there occurs imbalance between the two. Whether you work in an office or in your home, there should be a balance always otherwise the things becomes worse and people starts getting depressed. Balance is very important between work and personal life. You should set some strict working hours and work for those hours only. It is not good to work more in order to earn more. This is harmful for health and will eventually be very dangerous. There is no benefit in this as the money you will earn will go in the medicines you have to purchase when you get sick due to overwork. So, make balance. If there will be balance, you will get enough time for your personal life and friends and family. You will not be depressed and exhausted. Life will be good. Home based work is good in only one sense that you do not have to go to office. It does not mean that you can or have to work for more hours or full day or late night. It simply means that you can now work from home. Do not conclude that home base work means you can work all the time when you are in home. It is very harmful practice and it can make you depressed and fatigued and exhausted. Work for fixed hours, give time to yourself, your family, your friend. This will increase your productivity. Otherwise, your productivity will decrease and you will gain nothing. So, balance is vital between work and personal life.

in my opinion, you do not need to complain to the choices you make. because every decision has risk and you should be aware of it. I'm sure the day you get the results you wantyou will soon restore the situation thats make you complain. I hope even more than just recover...^_^

Hai Jemina Yup, absolutely right. Your case just like me, but it all depends on ourselves to limit it. Not easy to change a habit that is already running. Before it goes too long it's worth finding additional income that could increase your social activities. For example: open a private tutoring business, where you can recruit people who have the skills and make your organization as a social activity

Working at home full time and without social life? I didn't do that before and I will not do it, either. It must be very boring and I hate staying at home all the time. I think the best thing you can do(and have to do) is giving yourself a holiday, take a day off and walk out. Relax and look around, there are lots of amazing things happening around you. Work is just a part of our life, not the life itself.
