English lower middle order once again faltered even against minnows Ireland. They slumped from 288 for 4 in 44.3 overs to 327 for 8 in 50 overs. It was once again the top 4 batsmen Strauss, Peitersen, Trott and Bell who had to do bulk of the scoring. Ireland did well to restrict them to that score at one time it looked they will cross 350 mark but once Trott was out the batsmen following just mark their presence. England may find it difficult to progress much ahead if their lower middle order continue to falter like this. A fine third wicket partnership of 167 runs between trott and Bell took England to a respectable score.

Ireland are at least putting up a decent fight. Compared with Canada and Kenya who have been very very disappointing in this world cup, it is very good. Among the associates only Ireland and Holland have shown some stomach for a fight. Of course, England might still win the match easily, but at least I hope the margin of the victory would not be 200 odd runs!! Cheers! Ram

I agree with you ram. Ireland seems to be better of the lot. At one stage they were about 100 odd runs for the loss of just two wickets in less than 20 overs. This was a good achievement. They have now slumped to 138 for five in 27 overs. Still a decent enough fight.

But look at the score right now. They need 84 runs of 76 balls to win the match!! A great fightback. Cheers! Ram
