Hurt by what critics have been saying about his English grammar, Manny "Pacman" Pacquaio has been planning to close his Twitter account or just switch it to a private account. As of now, Pacman's fans have been trying to convince him not to continue this plan. I feel really sorry for Pacman, being criticize with his English grammar. I think Pacman doesn't need be good in English to be a good Congressman & role model. He has a secretary & a proofreader to check the English in his bills. What is important is his intention to help others. It's really annoying why some Pinoys makes English grammar such a big deal. Even some foreigners are not that good in English that they even hire translators to be able to communicate. As long as we understand each other, I think there should be no problem at all.

I think no need to close Pacman's account! He should not be affected with different critics from anybody. He didn't hide his own personality, he was not an educated person but he is a successful individual. What is the use of your education if you are not successful like him? If I am on his shoe, I don't care about them. Atleast he maintain his good reputation as a boxer and a public servant. Sooner or later Manny will be a good speaker, just now maybe it's not good to hear or read it's because he is still learning on English languages.

Pacman not aware of being a celebrity. He's life now is different, all his move is criticize by many people. He belongs to both a celebrity and public servant. Unlike us whatever we do online no body cares. Better he closed his account. No one will disturbed him now.

I guess you're right, at least nobody will disturb him anymore and he won't receive negative criticisms. But still he should not have treated a fan that way.

I think it's too late for that. I've heard on the news, I think it was just last week, that he closed his account. But there is one thing that bothers me before he did it. He kind of insulted a fan/follower who was just wondering why he was not present on a very important cabinet meeting. Maybe he was not on a good mood, but still he should have been polite even if the answer to that query was obvious (he is on training now, getting ready for a fight). This is not good for his reputation.

i can still recall one txt message that circulated that mocked manny due to his less superior use of the english language.it was funny but it was also humiliating.mocking a successful person is a form of crab mentality.

pacman mad - twitter isn't not that bad.
Hello Ichipink, I don't know about these people but at least Pacman can speak English and it doesn't have to be in right or wrong pronunciation. besides, Lito Lapid doesn't speak english and yet he remains in the Senate, then how come these idiots are criticizing Pacman?i may not agree him being a congressman in the first place. but at least you know, he got to meet OBAMA personally, which is something that people can be jealous at. So many insecure and low self-esteem pinoys who can't do a damn thing but to criticize.

I think he opened a Twitter so his fans could easily communicate with him. I guess it's his way of reaching out to them.

Yeah, Pacman is really wealthy. But still, that doesn't give anybody the right to hurt his feelings. Nobody is perfect.

I totally agree with you here. I mean, English isn't even our national language and we make such a big fuss out of using it incorrectly. So what if Manny Pacquiao can't speak English the way actors speak English in chick flicks? Nobody gives a damn about grammar these days unless you're writing a scholarly paper or defending your thesis in front of a powerhouse panel. As long as both parties understand each other, then there's no problem.

Yeah, a lot usually make english such a big deal... I guess it comes from admiring the western culture so much. Some even try to be so westernize that they teach their children English and don't bother teaching them Tagalog or their other native language.

I guess he can speak on any language in Twitter since there is nothing that stops him from speaking his mind out whatever language he uses. I think he should reconsider this since he will lose a lot of opportunity to connect with his many fans. I guess he need not close the account just because he could not express himself.

Yeah you're right, his fans will really feel bad when he closes it. But we can't blame Pacman, everybody has a limitation. I guess Pacman just can't take anymore the people criticizing his grammar.

I think manny shouldn't be embarrassed about his English grammar. As a Filipino, he has already given our country so much honor and every Filipino should be proud of that fact and don't focus on his grammar. we're Filipinos right. so we don't have to speak in English. Pacman tries his best to speak in English just so other countries could understand him. but some of us have nothing better to do with our lives than to criticize others of their faults and imperfections. When all we have to do is be proud of the persons achievement not only for himself but for his country. :)

This is sad, no wonder there's not much progress in the country simply because of these kind of people who just want to say something. we exercise our democrazy and yet we abuse it with something that we believe is true. though, some are being frank but manny pacman isn't a call center agent or an english trainer for a BPO company. he's a congressman and a boxer who doesn't need to be too fluent in english

you are obviously a fan of him. Well i admire when it comes to boxing since it isn't easy. But him as a congressman? i am not his fan, politics is too much. If he wants to help others he can do so in so many ways not just going into politics.

heheh.. no, honestly I'm not a fan. I just don't like it when some people make fun of others' English. And sometimes they get to the point that they hurt others' feelings because of that.

Why speak English in the first place? If i were him, I would speak in plain tagalog or bisaya. Most of his followers are filipinos anyway so why bother and go through all the humiliation whenever he say something in english? it's clear that his tongue is hard as his fist (no offense as I'm a certified bisdak too), and his diction and barok english is already part of him so there's really no reason to be hurt. If there are critics, that's because theres something to be criticized on but it doesn't mean that everyone has the same opinion about him. A fan will always be a fan regardless of how he speaks besides, he's in the best position to make a difference. In a business where almost everyone speaks with a twang, it's about time to go local. If someone needs interpretation, manny shold let koontz do it for him, that's part of his job.

I agree with marklloydbinar & jacopastorius. Pacman definitely has followers all around the world. And I think Pacman tweets in English so that none of his fans will we left out when he has updates about his training...

I tell you what I think: Those critics are jealous losers. Even if they are born three times with the greatest BD English degree they can buy with their parents' money, they can never be at the same level of greatness that Manny Pacquiao achieved, even when he is not that well educated in speaking the kind of English these critics are craving. They can garnish their tombs with their best English quotes, but Manny Pacquiao doesnt need any English quotes because his achievements speak for itself.

I definitely agree, let's not look far, here in mylot, a lot doesn't speak well in English but we don't care that much as long as they can express what they really want to say, then that's fine with us. It's just that as a political figure, I hope he work it out because it's important for him to communicate with other nationalities as well. If he's a barangay chairman or basically works within your community then it's ok to just speak your local dialect. But as a congressman, he reflects the whole city he lives in and at the same time, Philippines as well. He's rich enough to hire the no. 1 English/ Grammar professor, anyway.

I guess you're right about that. As Congressman, part of his responsibility would be to learn to communicate fluently. But on the other hand, some politicians from other countries are also not very good in English. Some even hire interpreters.
