the S, I think means Symbian and it's like the version of the operating system of your phone. I use my S60 to get free internet here in my country even though I only have a prepaid sim :D I hope you find my answer helpful :D

S60 phones are smartphones . s40 as Java based phones . the differnece between a s40 and a s60 nokia phone is that the s60 phones can multitask . ( you can open two applications simultaneously without closing one.) smartphones are tomorrows phones and it is always better to buy buy a smartphone.

the s means series and the v means version when your phone is under s40 platform it mean it is a java phone i.e can only take .jar application but s60s are symbian phones this are phone that can do multitask work i.e open two application at a time. To cut every thing short your phone is a java phone and a s40 phone
