Why is it that Pariah dogs have higher immunity power than other pure breed dog?

A lot of people who have owned pariah dogs (an ancient dog breed in india)say that it has very high immunity power but other pure breeds like german sheperd gets sick every now and then. Is it because ancient dog breeds have more immunity power? I have also heard that mutts or mixed breeds are also more resistant to diseases than pure breeds.
