i get up 30 minutes before office time. 15 minutes leading to office and 15 minutes driving so i don't have time to prepare and pack my lunch... i usually give 5 riyals to the teaboy for a piece of arabian sandwich (falafel) worth 3 riyals and he always keep the change as i asked him to do so. that's my breakfast and i helped out the guy for a little side line... lunch at the cafateria and on my way home, i just used to drop and have my early supper at my favorite restaurant! i am doing this because i can save more money and time... also, i can do my outdoor activities without any pending house hold chores...

I am a man who can devour a mountainous plate of rice. A rice man. hahaha So I do pack my lunch RICE... I go to the office with the cooked rice in my bag. Usually 3 cups or more. hahaha It make me save some bucks by bringing my own RICE. hehehe :)

Hi! Used to do this before when I was younger. The only drawback would be when you have it packed so early in the morning and when you're about to eat it, it's already moist inside. Lucky you if it is still not spoiled. But you'll get more savings if you do and that's for the bright side.

let the food cool out first before putting into your lunch box. that's what my mom and elder siblings were doing. while we are having our breakfast, the lunch has been set aside at one place waiting for the temperature to settle down then pack it. i hate carrying food which i can feel the heat penetrating at my back or at my side.

Yeah hate that too, and it's all messy and wet during lunch time. Yes, that's the tip but when you are really in a hurry you cannot afford to do that. I usually prepare my own packed lunch! ;)

Hi zills, I do pack my lunch for work, I pack for my husband and kids also, mainly because we are vegetarians and cannot find veg food in canteens or restaurants or may not find a lot of variety, and it also saves money if we cook at home and bring and I also believe its healthy this way, whatever the reason I am now so used to it, my colleagues in office tease me saying "without fail" you bring food and will praise me for getting up so early to cook for everyone.... I too enjoy doing it, and if for some reason I dont cook and pack food for my kids I feel a bit guilty.... hehehe... seems a bit over, isnt it, but thats how it has been now for few years and I love it.... have a nice day.....

Too bad I didnt get to experience that, my mom never did pack our lunch before when we were kids. That's why I will ensure that I pack my kid's snacks/lunch to school when they grow up. :)

Hi, zills66. Since I work at home and is a full time mother, I don't have to pack any lunch. Not unless I am taking a lunch with me to the park. I think that it is fun to pack your own lunch when you are out. Enjoy your lunch and dinner!

I guess it really depends on each person. I wake up an hour and a half before I have to take off to office which is also an hour and a half before the office hours.. Hehe. I like waking up early to prepare breakfast and my packed lunch.. I find that it saves me more to bring packed lunch than to eat at the office cafeteria..

Hehe! Actually I live in the city, my profile picture was taken on a trip in a province her in the Philippines. I really can't wake up early, if I rely on my body clock, I'll wake up at 6am which is already late. I rely on my boyfriend to call me and wake me up every single day at 530am.. He's up that hour because he works nights shifts.

I used to pack lunch but don't these day. These days I go to the school cafeteria and have lunch there. It's been quite a while since I took lunch to school. I love cafeteria's food too.

hi that girl, we've been talking since a while and i have noticed that you are not in my friend list yet.. gosh sorry for that.. please accept my apology.. and we are talking like i have known you for a long time. and you are nice and sweet and funny! now i am sending you my friend request... well it's nice to eat in the cafeteria as you can see a lot of people eating.. there was a guy who loves gozzip and a little medding does he did while we were eating one time... some a lil negative but funny and most of the time positive and you can pick a lot of moral and lessons in it...and i like the companion of this guy...i am not a gozziper nor meddler lol but i love laughing when he started to row the boat.. so we, all his passengers you cannot see anyone without gasping breathe as everyone were carried by his stories with a lot of humor... another thing why i used to eat at the cafeteria is that, you could just sit while ordering and waiting for the food to be served and just leave when you are finished... lol... sorry as am really lazy.. lol

Since I work from home, I don't have to pack a lunch for myself anymore but I always used to do so when I worked outside the home. The only time I didn't bring a lunch was if I had plans to meet friends at a restaurant or if I was going to be in a meeting at work where lunch was provided. For my daughters, I pack their lunch every day. They eat much healthier this way -- they take things like dinner leftovers, a wrap or a salad (with a protein -- meat, fish, egg), low-fat cheese, raw vegetables, yogurt and fruit. For desserts, they prefer 100-calorie cereal bars or Thinsations cookie packets. One of my girls needed to lose a bit of weight so I changed her lunches a bit -- she no longer takes any sandwiches or bread. Instead, I give her some meat (usually ham, turkey or chicken) with an assortment of raw veggies and a light dip or dressing, along with the other items. Making just this simple change has really helped her with her weight loss program :)

if not because of the high price of prime commodities here, i should have been packing my lunchs every day too. in that way, i could also watch my diet..lol.. i just used to eat light meals every day in the cafeteria. well, seeing those foods and eating them every day is boring and honestly am getting tired of it. lol but what can i do? there is no any other options other than going to the cafeteria. otherwise, i need to drive 35 or 40 miles away from the work site just to find some good restaurant which can offer variety of foods and more choices... also, i am not good in cooking lol and i hate keeping utensils as i'm only one in my flat if i did not harbor a roommate... lol.. he stays downstairs and i asked him to share with me but he does not like.. he's also receiving his housing allowance so what for is the room sharing.. that he tells, besides, if your having a nightmare i could come up and expect my company everynight....i could ask him to cook but thanks goodness! the kettle almost flighted and the frying pan too has almost turned into ashes!! Gosh.. if i'm lazy, he's more than.. and he's forgetful too!

Usually my shift isn't long enough to justify packing a lunch. Though when I do happen to get a long enough shift I do. Typically a sandwich of some sort or left overs. THough they have started a popcorn cart and thats a nice lil treat to get you thru. Otherwise I usually take an oatmeal bar or fruit as a snack for my 15min break.

one thing that i'm trying to get rid of is that, having a heavy lunch as i have trouble breathing when i'm full... lol.. i don't know but eating heavy lunch just made me uncomfortable so i needed to walk along the hallway or march the whole building's perimeter to get settled down.. i hate this!! i have a heartburn and a benign heart murmur too so i avoid eating too much... a lil bite at lunch is what my system just needed as am also sedentary...

hi zills I used to always carry my own lu nch to wo rk as I had only a half hour when I worked in the library. when I worked as a nurses aide we ate in the hospital dining room and our meals were free as part of our pay. as a diabetic when I worked in the library my lunches were very healthy fresh veggie and fru it and some sort of meat sandwich. it sure helped me out money wise and was much more healthy too.

i don't understand why people always say eating outside is not always healthy! you know i stayed in a villa to an american compound here and i can say that the food are always healthy. the color is perfect and complete in variety. the messhall is clean and perfect with an open air and i just love eating there as i always think no place should be healthier than there.

I don't have to pack a lunch for work! I work at a college in the kitchen. I am able to eat two meals there a day. I don't have to buy it! So I save alot on food! I am very grateful for that! I also like that I can take home food so I don't have to worry alot on buying food!

Hizills, The similar is the case with me too. Earlier I could get up early morning but of late I sleep longer and after taking a shower I check my books. Then have light food and push off to my college. I get so late that I have to drive my car at 100/110 km an hour. This is not only risky but also more fueling consuming.

so that's pretty hard too. well, i make it sure that if i tend to exert more energy, either at job or my extra activities outdoors, i should eat more so i could sustain my biological needs... i would suggest you to get up in the morning ahead of time and eat if you can. carbo foods like rice is the best thing to eat in the morning so at least we could burn those calories in our long whole day bidding. then eat less at night so that drive us to wake early in the morning and put someting in our stomach..

I eat breakfast at home every morning, and prepare my daughter's breakfast as well. The sitter provides lunch and snacks for my daughter, but I always pack my lunch. It saves me at least a 100 dollars a month by eating at home. I also eat healthier.

you do so? that's good to hear. perhaps, in your country, you all have the resources. unlike here that the a gallons of gasoline is a way cheaper than a tray of tomatoes. i'd rather eat outside than having a home-cooked food. not only does eats a lot of time preparing but also a pocket-holing. of course we need to save and that's wisest thing an expat like me want to do....

I work in a restaurant, and because I am a team leader (one step under management), I get to eat for free, so I have no need to take a lunch to work with me. I can either go into the kitchen and make my own lunch, or I can have someone else make it for me.

Now I am retired,so I do not have to, But all my working life I packed my lunch, since I find that to buy is too expensive, and also too tempting to buy something not so healthy.I used to pack, salads,or sandwiches,or leftovers from the night before, fruits and yogurts.

back in my elementary and high school days i usually have a packed lunch. My mom would let be bring a thermos that allows food to be stored and the food is kept hot until it will be served. In my college year, i got no chance of bring any baon or packed lunch. no more time to prepare food. Worst scenario is when I go to work. I have to spend more than 50 php per meal or more. My best experience with packed lunch is when I went to Hong Kong. I and my family prepared a packed lunch good for 3 to 4 days. Got plenty of cooked rice and 2 loaves of bread, got cheese and all sorts of food. we are like having a picnic in hong kong. In Hong Kong, rice is expensive about 60 pesos more or less 10 times the regular price back in the country that i'm in.
