England put up a spectacular fight back to win a low scoring thriller at M.A. Chidambaram stadium at Chennai to day. A crucial group B match which was particularly significant for England after loosing their match against minnows Ireland. Had they lost the match to day they would have been under tremendous pressure to qualify for second round. Earlier in the day England were shot out for paltry 171 by some accurate spin balling by Imran Tahir well supported by Peterson. Peterson started the slide by taking 3 quick wickets with only 15 runs on board. Only notable partnership was between Trot and Bopara who gave some respectability to the total by adding 99 runs for the forth wicket. Only four batsmen could cross double figure. South Africa started well putting on 63 runs for the first wicket but lost the way in between loosing 3 quick wickets at the score of 124. They slumped from 124 for 3 to 127 for 7. Then there was mild recovery through Steyn and Van Wyk and took the score from 127 to 160, 12 short of the target but after the fall of Wyk on 160 the innings folded at 165. The hero of England balling was Broad who took 4 for 15 runs of 6.4 overs.

Yes, it definitely was a great victory for England. Not only did they fight back very well, they actually again opened up the table. South Africa were cruising and suddenly now their credentials on slow low pitches is again under question. The last five chases that South Africa has chased less than 200 odd runs in the world cup they have lost!! Are they chokers? :)
Cheers!
