Getting to be friends with God

I believe that to achieve a real link with God you have to be friends with him. That means not just praying but talking and discussing things with him. If I am alone, I find myself actually speaking out loud and asking questions. The Bible is always next to my bed and it says you should pray all the time. So... my praying is like talking to a friend. After this generally my problems change, go away or I am able to solve them with God's support and wisdom. It is a good thing to have!

It is said that one should have a personal relationship with God, to do so, one does need to talk, discuss things (even one sided discussions), rather than the praying whether it be praise or asking for answers or things. Just a simple thing like saying "I'm thinking about...", and then 'what do you think?' Can lead to different conclusions than you might have reached otherwise. I'm not so sure about the speaking out loud part though...people have a tendency to develop habits of doing such and end up being treated as though they are less than intelligent when in public, because they unconsciously carry that habit of speaking to God aloud when among others. So while having this relationship is a good thing to have, exercising a bit of caution when engaging in this relationship might be a good idea also...after all, a friend would understand keeping things 'just between them' works from both sides.
