Dear all,
After a string of extremely high scoring matches and boring matches, this last weekend showed us how exciting, low scoring matches can be. This is why I say, give bowlers pitches that help them. But then again, it is only my opinion (:P).
When South Africa dismissed England for a mere 171, no one would have thought that South Africa would lose. With the England win, the tournament became open and more over South Africa's weak middle order has been exposed. It was the best way for the English team to regain their confidence.
India chased for the first time in this tournament and won. The Indian bowling attack "managed" to restrict the Irish to 207. After an initial hiccup, India won pretty convincingly in the end. Thanks to Yuvraj for his bowling and batting efforts. It was refreshing to see, yuvraj understand his role, and perform according the team's requirement. Well then again Ireland is only an Associate team. Hopefully he can keep up the good work.
What these matches have shown, is the importance of pitches that assist bowlers, and the selecting only the best two associate teams for world cups. This would help keep up the interest in One- Day Internationals...

It definitely was a better weekend for the world cup. It would have been even better had the Australia Sri Lanka match not washed out. It was also ironic that the major fun was in matches that were relatively low scoring rather than high scoring matches. This is the reason why there needs to be better balance in the pitches to have a equal fight between the bat and the ball. I think if this week also throws up good matches then we will build nicely into the knockout stages of the tournament.
Cheers!

Dear Ram,
I agree, I wish the match got completed. It got called off when it was starting to get interesting. This weekend, there are five games. But only matches are interesting. West Indies vs Ireland and India vs South Africa. The rest should be walk overs (No disrespect to associate teams).
Well I hope that we get more pitches that assist bowlers. I am sure, it will make the tournament more exciting...!!!
