During our childhood we had those classic rhymes like Jack and Jill, Mary had a little lamb, Humpty Dumpty etc, which was sung and taught to us by our teachers then!
I recall we had an European Lady by name Mrs. Webber who used to teach us these rhymes during my childhood!
Now a days there rhymes are either sometimes heard on some music systems like CD players etc or I heard them as ring tones too!
Now I am 50 and my son will be 25 this June so I am not in touch with the present syllabus meant for nursery kids!
What I want to know from the parents of young kids is, if these classic rhymes are still taught in the school or some new nursery rhymes have replced them in your area? Kindly respond! Thanks!

Hi AKRao
On the lighter side... get your som married and have a grandchild to relive the sweet memories or find out what new / changes have taken place
On serious note, India has different kind of schools these days. Some are following the western ways, some the kind of CBSE or ICSE and also some on the local boards. Depending on where the child gets to study, the syllabus varies.
One of my neighbor's kids is studying at an Oriya Medium School and they still teach the ones you mention... nothing seems to have changed. My nephew (brother's son) studies at the CBSE and they had a few from the old ones like twinkle twinkle, baa baa black sheep etc but many new additions too

Hi Dear Sid! I would love to get him married! But you today's generation, they want to get settled first in their lives before taking any responsibility! Though in a way it is better, I think these people of today are bit too matured! During our time we got married as our parents they wanted us to do so! And we have taken up the professional job after the marriage! LOL!
Now coming to our discussion , yes I can understand every state is having its own Board and it is also following CBSE syllabus also in some schools! Depending upon the syllabus they must be including some of these Rhymes in the course curriculum!
In fact I asked this question as I accidentally got a rhyme book belonging to one of my supervisor son who is in Kg class and I was surprised to see many new rhymes in the book. This was the book from some private publication!
Thanks for responding!

Although the nursery rhymes in the homes are not so common as they use to be, they are still being taught in the nursery and kindergarten class rooms.
Still the same concept in our schools here. The children are still amused and love them just as much as you and I.
