Feeling it now and afraid

One of my co-workers last 2009 spent her whole December in therapy for this disorder and now I’m afraid I have it as well. I’m getting numbness and it tingles on the palm of my hand.
They said that I should do some hand exercise to avoid having this illness. Sometimes I put hot compress or use a wrist splint so that it would straighten... The pain is travelling up now to my elbows and that is scary... Hope that when I see the doctor they won’t say I have them.
Has any of the mylotters already encountered this illness? Or had a surgery for this?
Any information will help me a lot. Thanks in advance guys.

I do know two people who have carpel tunnel and it is worse then arthritis because it is not a flare up but a continual problem. Both of them had hand surgery and although they are better neither one has regained full range of motion in there hand.
Trying to grasp the simplest things causes great discomfort.

What is that disorder? I have not heard anything regarding to that. Is it related to stroke because it seems to be one of the symptoms leading to stroke. U better have it checked and pray that it's nothing serious. On a lighter note, it might be parkinson disease as well, but it should not be due of the things u are experiencing, is somehow different.

So far, you are doing the right stuff. Use the wrist splint as much as you can, especially at night when you sleep. Exercises may help some but I would do them as long as you're having pain up into your elbow. I think that indicates some inflammation beginning. You can probably take some ibuprofen for that. Try to limit repetitive movements of your hands and wrists. I hope your job doesn't require that. Even sitting and typing on the keyboard will irritate it when it is in inflammation. I have seen some surgeries done with fair results but I've gotta tell you that it usually recurs. Do all you can to avoid surgery but of course, if you don't get any relief at all, that may be necessary. You may need to ask that co-worker who her therapist was and go that route.

I've never experience carpel tunnel, but I do have a lot of friends that have been through this. One friend of mine had surgery for her carpel tunnel and it resulted in her having partial disability because the surgery was not successful. The other good friend that I had that suffered from carpel tunnel would always wear braces on her arms when she was typing or using the computer and she said that doing that gave her a lot of relief.
