Ahhh our wonderful President and his promises. Earmark reform? Must mean only his. Obama's budget plan has earmarked $2.7 million to go to South Dakota to purchase more land for a state park. Please show me just how many jobs this would create? who is this helping directly besides the property owner set to receive $2.7 million? Oh I know, the whole state will be able to enjoy the park. But is this really the time for the Federal Government to be setting up a State park? Is this Obama's way of listening to the people who are demanding fiscal responsibility? http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/03/08/obama-budget-money-proposed-south-dakota-state-park/

I'm originally from South Dakota; it's a great state! I love national and state parks/monuments! In fact, one of my lifetime goals is to go to all 400+ of the national parks/monuments. I'm well over half way there... BUT, this is no time to be "buying" more national, let alone state, parks/monuments. We can't even maintain/repair the ones we have, let alone add more. I also believe the Federal Government shouldn't be helping states out with the development of state parks. If SD thinks it can afford a new park, then let them fund it. The Fed needs to take care of its responsibilities or mothball/sell what it can't afford to keep up. Anyone up for buying Yellowstone?

Sorry, but, I truly believe in State Parks. Unless there is something illegal in the transaction, like the man is a relative and will profit illegally or something, I think it should be made a park.

I love parks too, but a new park is a luxury and when the country is in debt it needs to stop purchasing million dollar luxuries. If you were in debt would you go out and buy a 52" plasma TV?

Thank you taskr, you took the words out of my mouth. I love parks too, but when we are broke and are cutting from the "poor" how do you justify all this money for a STATE park.

More property held by the government and out of the hands of the people? I'm a conservation advocate, but lately I am wondering if letting the federal government own large chunks of valuable land is so smart.

Gladys, you can start criticizing other people's sources when you learn to use one for yourself.
