This is clearly one of the dumbest anti-gun left wing ideas I've ever heard. Lisa Madigan, Attorney General of Illinois want to make public a list of every gun owner, and holder of a gun permit in the state. She wants the list to include exactly which weapons they own, and what they have permits to own. Now I think this moron wants to publicly demonize these people for exercising their second amendment rights, but she's too stupid to realize that, by doing that, she's really putting out a list that lets all criminals know who does NOT have a gun. State police officials have flat out refused to provide this list both over privacy, and safety concerns. Thank god they are the ones who have this information. What are your opinions? Should owners of gun permits be public information that anyone can look at? Does this do ANYTHING good for law abiding citizens? Would releasing this information violate the 4th amendment and put innocent people in danger? http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=7989383 http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/03/02/illinois-officials-spar-order-make-list-gun-owners-public/

This is ridiculous and I'm glad the state police have some common sense. No one should lose their right to privacy (yes, this is a violation) for exercising their constitutional right to own a weapon. It's a personal decision that should only involve the individual and the state & local authorities. As far as putting people in danger, this would most definitely put the security of their property at risk as would be thieves would know that weapons were on the premises so the property, as well as everyone who lives in the residence, would become targets.

With this "logic" we should be publishing the names and addresses of everyone who shows up at protest rallies.

PLEASE DON'T LET THIS BRING ON A LATE-SEASON BLIZZARD...but I absolutely agree with you on this, Taskr. Exactly what is her point? I don't quite understand it but it makes no sense and it's certainly stupid! Annie

This is insane but the amendments and the Constitution were supposed to restrict the federal government, not eh state governments. I would hope that this would be a violation of the Illinois Constitution...

Good to see you acknowledge there is a right to privacy guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment! I had no idea you were pro-choice!

Abortion has nothing to do with the 4th amendment. "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." I fail to see where that says women have the right to an abortion. Roe v Wade was judicial activism at its worst. Personally I'm not even sure that publicizing the list would be a 4th amendment violation per se. I just asked the question if other people felt it was. My biggest concern is that there is no good served by making this information public and it would only serve to put innocent, law abiding people in danger.

The SCOTUS that decided Roe v Wade cited the 14th amendment, not the 4th.
