Friend sprayed too much perfume

Hello fellow mylotters. My friend called me today a bit upset, though laughing. She had a friend over who had a runny nose (it's cold here, so that happens to us) and being a good hostess put a box of kleenex in front of her. She went into another room for a few moments and came back to continue the visit.
Couple hours later after her guest left, she got a runny nose and of course grabbed for a kleenex, to find the other friend had sprayed perfume in it. Not only did she spray it, she apparently soaked it. She did it while my poor friend was in the other room and did not see her do it. Immediately my poor friend got a slight headache from the scent. Now her box of kleenex is ruined. She did try airing it out some, but it is not working. I assured her by next year the scent should be gone. lol. We don't waste things around here, kleenex and other paper products are so expensive. She offered it to me, but I declined. Even though it is the kind with lotion in it.
Perfume can be a nice touch for certain items, but in moderation. All of us wear it. But a 1/4 of a bottle is a bit overboard. (at least my friend says there has to be at least 1/4 bottle in her kleenex now lol)
Have you ever had a friend who took it upon themselves to spray perfume on something, like kleenex? Or use it for an air freshener in such an overpowering way it made your eyes water? Tell me about your experiences with perfumes and scents.

I agree with those above, that was rude of her. And for me it would be very harsh as I am deathly allergic to most perfumes. I have had my throat swell almost shut from being in the same classroom with a heavy perfume user.

A lot of people have allergies or develop them quite easily these days. I don't think the lady was thinking about that. My friend uses scents too, but is more tasteful most of the time.
Goodness, I am sorry you have such an allergy. It must be very difficult for you to go in public areas because of the scents some people seem to bathe in.

It can be painful to know someone who wears too much! I also get headaches from certain types of scents and if it is overpowering. Maybe you can mention to your friend very politely that she is overdoing it. She may not be aware. She is alienating people from her space because she wears it so heavy, many people would not want to be around her.

NO!
nobody will dare! har har har. i dont know why other people do that, they didnt even think what will happen and not even minding who will suffer. if this is a prank then it is not funny. then if that person is thinking that this is cute, then its not. if i were your friend i will keep that box of kleenex inside a big ziploc... then if ever that person who did that came back i will offer that same box to her. she is the only one who can use that with that perfume.

your friend even brought there the box of kleenex? you nosy girls har har har. well maybe there were no bad intentions what so ever but still, it is not her box of kleenex so atleast she had asked permission or told the owner that she would pour 1/4 of the bottle inside the box. har har har. this is funny, people do some funny things thats sometimes we dont understand why.

lol! She had to show me how overpowering it was! She did take it back, I made her. lolol. She may end up giving it to the one who did it in the first place. I think it will take FOREVER to air the stink from it!

lolol! My friend and I do not believe she did it with any other intention than to be nice. lol. It is rude and very forward, to say the least, but she does not realize how bad a thing it is. Good thing my friend did notice it, because had she a friend who is sensitive or even allergic to the scents and had offered it, it could have been a very bad thing.
True, she probably is the only one that can use it! I tried, (my friend brought it over--I think she was really bored today to bring a show and tell. lol) I put it to my nose and almost had a reaction myself, and I wear perfume! I know I do put on a tad more than I should, but I sell it so I need others to smell the scents. I do hope it is not overpowering. Dear Lord, I hope I never smell like the kleenex! lol. People would drop like flies around me.

I agree! She probably does not realize what a problem it is. She uses lots of perfume.

I have a very sensitive nose and I get allergies from strong scents. Even cologne can trigger my allergies so I seldom use them. There are only a few colognes that won't trigger my allergy. I can just imagine if the Kleenex was sprayed with perfume. If it were me I would really throw it away and ask my friend to get me a new one.

Some people just do not understand how others can be so sensitive to perfumes and colognes. I had an Avon customer who was very sensitive, so on the days I went to visit her I was much more careful in how I put on my scent. It is not good for business when you make someone sick! lol.

I had a friend once who LOVED my air freshener in my bathroom every time she would come over she would spray the damn thing like 6 times so that all you could smell through the entire house thankfully it was a nice smell (sugar cookies) and not to over powering but it was defintly allot so fro Christmas that year i bought her the air freshener and hand soap to go with it. now she leaves mine along

O, my. That can be a bit annoying, especially when one short spurt will do! Glad you found a solution.

lol! Yes, that would be my reaction to. Yet she is a nice lady who has no idea it was wrong. If I were my other friend, I would give her that box of kleenex only, and not allow her to taint others.
Or, as you said, let her keep using the harsh paper napkins!

hello rose,
I don't use perfume everyday.
I only dab a little occasionally.
So,when i smell too much scent/perfume,it really gives me headache.
I wonder how other people sprayed too much on their body or clothings and stand the smell (maybe they're used to it)
I like mild scent perfumes,or better cologne sometimes.
Have a great day

I think you are right, they use too much all the time so do not know when it is enough, nor when it begins to get offensive. Even the nicest smelling scent can be atrocious if someone layers it on several times over.
2 squirts is what I use. More than that is evil!
lolol

I think it's bad to smell too much perfume. I know someone who sprays too much on her and I just stay away from her whenever she closes up on me. It's not that she smells bad, it's because she smells good. In fact, too good I couldn't stand it.

Oh gosh no I have never had that happen. I would be very upset if someone did, because it would be disrespectful to invade my "kleenex" items that way. What if the person is allergic or something and had a bad reaction.
I wonder how this person would have felt had it been done to her. (*sad*)

I don't know that she would mind at all. I have met her, so I do know she sprays lots of perfume all the time, and does it at home with her kleenex, her bed, etc. She is one of my best customers for Avon perfumes! I think she thought it a nice gesture and does not realize how offensive it really is. Had it been a drop or so, it wouldn't be so bad. Still a problem, but not so bad. Now if my friend has company she can not give that kleenex to someone else, in case they would have a reaction to it.

Perfumes and colognes are nice, but if you can smell them from across a large room, it is just a little too much!
Spraying perfume in a large group of people is just rude, though perhaps she did not know any better. Some folks have never been taught how to properly apply scents.
