food and feeding

I am often shocked at how little people know about what they feed there pets and people who are so careful about what they feed themselves often pay no attention to what they feed there pets.I have been on both ends of the spectrum from picking up what cheep to now after the huge pet food recall and some nutrition related health problems with my pets being much more informed and always reading the ingredients as well as guaranteed analysis on the bag. so I was curiose to know what everyone feeds there pets weather a dog or a cat? were do you buy your pet food? how closely do you monitor what your pets eat? after the big pet food recall a few years back do you pay more attention then before to there diet? on a side note how do you feed your pet? do you leave a bowl of food out all day or do you feed at meal times?

Taj - This one was really sick until we had his teeth pulled, and he's been over compensating since
We dodged a big bullet with the pet food recalls since Purina One was never recalled. I had friends with fewer cats get some very sick ones on that problem, and feeding "better" food than I do. I would feed "better" but with 30 cats, 6 feral cats in the house, I feed Purina One Hairball and free feed. Believe it or not, the only really over weight ones either had medical problems they have (over) recovered from by over eating or came over weight and are now, slowly, losing a bit.

yea the pet food recall scared allot of people i to was lucky as nothing i was feeding at teh time was recalled but it was a big eye opener. purina one is allot better then some of the other foods on the market if i remember correctly it has actual meat in it which defiantly puts it above allot of foods I to feed a large number of cats including several strays and ferals When i first switched foods i was shocked at the price difference and wasn't sure if it was something i would be able to do long term but i was generally shocked at how much less they all ate they seemed to fill up faster and the 15lb bag the usually lasted me a weak was now lasting me nearly 3 weeks so i sat down did the math and in the end it as cheaper to feed to more expensive food how ever strange that sounds

Well, it takes 3 of the 17 lb Purina One to feed our hordes of cats, and these are just inside cats! That's when we are lucky enough to keep the other roommate's mountain goat of a dog out of the food!

yea i have to keep the cat food up on top of things such as the freezer and bookshelves in order to keep the dogs out of them and even then i have a few cats who go up and scoop the food onto the floor for the dogs they are a team and i'm out numbered lol
