8.9 level Earthquakes and 13 Foot Tsunamis in Japan

When earthquakes hit the Pacific Rim, they are just the beginning of the disaster. 8.9 level earthquakes are devastating, add to that the tsunamis that follow and you have among the worst things nature can deal out. Pray for the people of the Pacific rim, and while you are praying, donate to one of the many awesome organizations that are set up to give aid to those whose lives will probably never be the same... but they are the ones who survived, so the hope has already started for them. If you are able, I would highly recommend volunteering to join groups and going to disaster scenes yourself. You will never work harder, have your heart broken deeper, or come away from any situation with a greater feeling of love and honor for your fellow man.

I know the lutheran church, elca.org, will take donations and pass the whole thing on to the designated charity.

I know what this is about as I'm chilean and we had a big one on February 27, 2010. We are still recovering from it and it will take many years to get our economy back to normal. Fortunatly we can do it (Japan can do it too). The worst problem lies when an earthquake, tsunami or other terrible force of nature hits places that are poor. Chile's earthquake was 5 times as big as Haiti's. Yet I would give help to Haiti instead of helping Chile. Rich countries are prepared for emergencies. But each of us needs to feel that we belong. In these moments, I suppose that this is yje most important thing.

It is refreshing to see that in a world of fighting and economic despair, human beings will reach out to one another in compassion.

I'm going to look up the geographical aspects of this. It seems to me that the entire Pacific plate is in upheaval. Starting with the Indonesian quake that was so strong it minutely change the tilt of the earth. Those who will volunteer and those who can donate anything to help will most assuredly get their hearts broken by what they see, but their reward is greater than the heartbreak. That is what humanity needs to grab hold of in these days instead of worrying about their benefits package. Human beings are capable of such great things as we know. Let that be the American legacy. We cared enough to sacrifice for others.

One of the nuclear reactors is burning. Talk of an explosion. This is really bad.

Some real good ideas in there! Each of us should do what we can! And all should pray..

Just a quick FYI - the updated story by the Associated Press stated the maximum height of the tsunami when it hit Japan was 23 ft (7 meters).
