Yes, Shivers, that almost let me to have another Cold (ACHOO!)
Yes,
I am a bit ranting too regards to this possible Nuclear Disaster....
I thought they could do somethign about it. though they are doing their best, i think it's safe to assume that having a Nuclear Power Plant in a land so prone to Earth Quake is dangerous enough to cause another disaster: means MELT DOWN!
We, from the Philippines really hated the fact we paid the debt for the Nuclear PLant that was NEVER used during Marcos time. now, we are finally free from it's debt (fully paid, i think). but at the same, we felt blessed because despite of the HIGH Electric Bills, I am happy were not experiencing what Japan is having trouble now.
I mean, come on, the explosion in their plant was just because their effort to try to cool down those Reactors

So, my opinion now is WE CAn't Have NUKE power here, unless it's FUSION.
Have a Nice day.

True! If the worst comes to happen we can be affected by its radiation. But thank God that nothing bad really happened. I think for us here in the Philippines to manage such a big plant it would have been difficult that we have lots of volcanoes and is very earthquake prone. I think let us just harness geothermal energy than nuclear.

Hello Rsa101
,
Geothermal can also be dangerous at the point of Earthquake or most specifically known Volcanic explosions. though, some have built Geothermal plants, i think it wasn't enough to powerful the entire region of visayas?
i hope that other geo plants can be built in some volcanic places

Well at least we won't be having problem like radiation leakage. When a geothermal plant breaks down they would just steam off water vapor and that is it. The Volcanic explosions is a naturally occuring phenomenon which is part and parcel of geothermal energy. Well of course Geothermal is not enough but it is pretty safe than Nuclear which can give us cheaper energy but we may just lost it if things like what is happening in Japan right now. Looks like they are paying the price for it.

So far, the Japanese government is not admitting to a meltdown. Governments lie and cover up so much these days that I am quite skeptical about whether the truth is being told. We will know in the coming days. Speculation will be of no profit right now. I'm worried about radiation fallout and where it will go if in fact there is or will be a meltdown. Personally, I think that a meltdown in inevitable. Time will tell.

Hello Yoyo
,
I have watch this thing and from the certain point of view, it seems the plant is useless now. that's because the three stages of cooling has drastically failed.
i don't want to think about it knowing that people there are at stake, let's hope it doesn't explode.

oh my G I had not heard about that nuclear plant explosion. wow. You
are so right a land where earthqukes are prevelant is no place
to build nuclear power plants. I am glad they evacuated people from
around it so they would be safe. We have a nuclear power plant here in southern California San Onofre. I don't know if its being used now on not. we have not had a hard earthquake right here in years but we have often had small ones.

in japan everything is high technology so i am not surprise that their electricity is run by nuclear power. sometimes because of the high raise of technology they no longer think what would happen if they put something like this in a country where they all know that it always shake. i guess they did a lot of precautions but still a earthquake that powerful?... they did not predict that can happen. lets pray for the safety of every people that is there right now. plus all the trained people who are going there to help.

HI LEtra,
As a safety measures the authority has evacuated people living within 10 KM radius so that they are safe. We all know that earth quake is very common and frequent there.
Knowing the fact they should not have established nuclear power project that is showing the color now. Hope they have control over this and normal life resumes.
