my mother received a text message and upon reading it, she hurriedly called me and my sister to warn us, and then i received a text message from a friend it says "Stay inside the store if you are on duty/BBC FLASHNEWS: japan government radiation leak at fukushima nuclear plants.Asian countries should take necessary precautions. Remain indoors first24 hours. Close windows and doors.Swab neck skin with betadine where thyroid area is, radiation hits thyroid first. Take extra precaution, radiation may hit philippine at starting 4pm today. please send...." It was really alarming for the people who are not watching news today, my husband is watching CNN and the news were telling that japan is still in control with the nuclear plants and no need to worry although we should take care always... So guys no need to worry, i guess you should be watching the news and do not react to texttis directly...

That was really alarming to the point that a university president suspended classes because of that. I think that Text messages cannot be relied on in times of crisis. We should always seek the truth before acting on it.

I think the University President only suspended classes because most of the students' parents were starting to panic. They allowed the students' to go home so their parents won't have to worry anymore.

People who start chain messages like that to play on people's fear deserve a slap or maybe even two. The bad thing is that people who receive such hoax don't have the common sense to research about it, they just pass it on in fear of it being true.

yeah, you are so right... Before we pass things in text we must see to it if there is a reality in it, because we are also part of fooling people if we do that...

Yes, and the sad thing is that most people are gullible.

I received a text message about staying out of the rain, but it doesn't include swabbing my neck with Betadine. It seems that these false text messages are getting out of hand. People should know more than to scare others like this and letting them do nonsense.

we should not tolerate scam text messages, whenever we receive one if we are not sure of it we should not forward it to anyone.

I didn't forward that message to anybody. But still it has spread the community very fast. I guess some of them believe the text message and warned their relatives and friends.
