Disadvantage of Fistula (Arm) Operation?

I know that the purpose for a fistula in the arm is normally for dialysis. The advantage of having a fistula as opposed to a catheter is lower infection rate and better blood flow when in return means better filtration of the blood. Some of disadvantages sometimes it will clot resulting in another procedure called a fistulagram. You get stuck with 2 needles normally 3 times a week. After the initial procedure, they normally start using it within 4-6 weeks. After working in dialysis for 7 years, I would get the fistula. In my opinion, it would be the best option for me. The probable disadvantage is that your arm may be paralyzed forever. If the operation goes wrong and any important nerve is cut or damaged, permanent paralysis is the likely outcome.

Hiya syoti, Now I understand what that is but I am very lucky and don´t have that kind of problem. I suppose that he must be worried yes about it being like that. I would be as well up to a point. Honestly did not know it was called that but I have heard about it before. Would a Kidney transplant not be better in that case. I saw a fantastic kidney and pancreatic transplant the other Week and the Man is doing very well although he did have to suffer a lot of rejects with the matching of his blood type and all that. Third time lucky and he looks so much better.

For me it is not for the safety but it make your life miserable the one use it will killed by the arm only.
