daughter's car - hit by someone who was texting and ran a red light
My daughter was just involved in a wreck Saturday evening. The girl that hit her, almost head-on, was texting, ran a red light, and hit my daughter. Her car is totaled but she is ok. Her car was hit hard enough to deploy the airbag and jammed both doors. Texting is quickly becoming the number one cause of vehicle accidents, use to be drunk driving!

Oh, my! Your poor daughter. I am happy that the airbag came out to save her. The girl that hit her was being very dangerous texting whilst driving. She also went past a red light! Sometimes a person can suffer whiplash in such an accident.

She was checked out, xrays, etc, and nothing broken, she's a lil banged up but will be okay. The car is replaceable, she isn't, just glad she is okay

Hi, It is always advisable not to use handphone while driving. only when you have earpiece in hand, then it is more convenience for you to talk on phone while driving, but then it is best to stop talking on phone while driving as our concentration may run to the topic of chatting and we may not fully concentrate on the road. It may lead to have an accident occured.

Actually, these are things that makes me mad every time I'm in transit. I usually let the driver to feel that I'm annoyed if they're communicating with someone while driving. Even when they chatting with someone near the driver seat, it makes them unfocus. Sometimes, when someone has to get off, they could not hear it. Sometimes when they are texting they use only one hand in the manuevering the vehicle and it makes me mad specially when we almost hit other vehicles. Oftenly, if this happens, I vacally tell to drivers if they can possibly stop texting or chatting while they have passengers, of course in a nice way not to offend them. But for me, avoiding to use cellphone or any gadget that might caused them to distract must imposed and must be strictly implemented. Happy mylotting.

I often hope that many more drivers today would become wiser but unfortunately not so. As long as drivers feel that can mult-task they will continue to run risks of dangerous accident. Last summer a 28 year old plastic surgeon was driving while sending a tweet, he got into a major wreck which ended his life. I wonder what was so important that he just had to tweet, which could not wait until he was at a stop or arrived at his destination. So it is not uneducated people doing this is people simply not thinking.

yup, that's right. for sure, many people can not do anythings at the same time. In this case, driver lost the clear view, uncontrollable mind, and they caused accidents. TO restrict this, in my country, when drivers drive their motorbikes and use the cellphone, they will be penalized. :)

Where I live it has become illegal to do things that are distracting while driving. I think texting while driving is probably the worst cause of distraction, but eating while driving is very distracting too. I am probably involed in what I would call a close call at least once a week, because of a driver that is just now paying attention. Eventually we will not be able to avoid one of these close calls and I will be in an accident. I am glad they passed this new law here, maybe it will help with some of the drivers. There are always going to be people who don't care if it's a law and do it anyway.

In my home country the driver's attention must not be distracted. Therefore it is illegal to answer a mobile phone whilst driving. If the person's mobile phone begins ringing he or she should ignore it or find a safe place to park and then talk. Hands free kits are available but the driver could have his or her attention diverted so it wouldn't be a good idea to use a hands free kit. It would be dangerous for someone driving to eat a bag of chips whilst going along the road. These days some drivers have a machine which shows a map of his or her journey. Looking at this the driver might not see the something in the road could be a danger to him or her. I do think a lady putting on makeup or a man shaving would have to be parked to do these activities. Young children on the back seat might moan and divert their mom's attention. If a baby is screaming and the mom is on the motorway so her attention should be on the road ahead and around her. She could leave at the next exist to see to her baby's needs. A driver should not drive long distance without proper rest stops. A driver could go to sleep at the wheel and crash the car. A driver could be distracted by a lovely view or animals in a field.

Hi tikbalang, Very good observation. If you are in a crowded road or even normal situation while you drive all the organs like brain, reflexes, feet and hand are alert. And therefore you drive well without causing any accident. Once or twice I picked up the incoming call and was driving too. Though I was going quite right, the moment I disconnected I felt shocked all my attentions were not there. Hence now I bring my car to a halt and answer the call or make a call. Today you know I started for my college quite late and was thinking of taking a leave instead but no, the task is important. I gt ready within minutes and I was on the high way. After driving half of the distance I felt drowsy. And at one point I had almost hit a car as I was just for a moment gone sleep. Just tell me what to do when you face such conditions.

I'd say that the cell phone is probably at the top of the list. EAting and all that have to rank up there too but cell phone use is probably the leading distraction. The kid driving when my son was severely injured wasn't doing any of that though, he jsut didn't see the truck coming.
