I am planning to buy netbook with processor n450 250g HD and 1 gig RAM. It comes with windows 7 starer. I know there are some limitations on what you can do with starter version compared to ultimate version of windows 7 and I am used on using the ultimate version. So my question is, is it advisable to upgrade to ultimate version? Or should I just stick with starter? What are the cons and pros?

I have an acer netbook with the windows 7 starter, I can say it is a real pain! It is so limited and loads so slow. I have lost connection immensely when I use it. I barely use it all because of that. I do have a laptop and am still using that.
I am going to take time out one day and change it to FireFox, but of course will check out if compatible and or I have the adequate requirements. Leaving with the window 7 will limit you immensely, at least it has me and there is no point in owning it if I won't use it.

I don't have a laptop and I already bought the netbook, probably same as yours Acer EEE 1005p. And yes it is slooow as it is! I just tried it today after creating this discussion. Now I am planning to atleast upgrade it's ram to 2gig if it is possible. Anyway I am just planning to use when I go out of town, which is rare, and just be a plaything for my 6 yo kid.

I have the acer netbook, with windows 7 starter. I have thought about upgrading but haven't as of yet. I really haven't found any need too, other than you can put your own picture as the desktop background lol. But, I am not into gaming either, and I don't download a whole lot of music, videos, etc. I use mine mainly for email, chatting with friends, and taking care of business, and of course mylotting lol. It really depends on what you are going to be doing online. Also keep in mind that the netbooks don't have but 1g of ram. I do like it over my regular laptop for travel, it is so light to carry.

Yuk yuk yuk! I'd downgrade it to XP. It is the best operating system Micro$oft have ever come up with and even that took them 10 years to get anywhere near stable. I had Windows 7 on one laptop, and Vista on another, because I bought them new. I got so annoyed with the stupid warning messages all the time, the horrible user interfaces, and the horrendous system slow down that each of those operating systems causes that I downgraded them both to XP. Its the best thing I could have done for them. Running like a dream now, and not had a single issue with either of them.
I also do this at work. Whenever we get a new laptop in, I instantly downgrade it to XP.

I think there's nothing wrong with upgrading your OS to windows 7 ultimate. At least you would be able to maximize your windows potential with the different feature you got there. Since it's a new netbook, it usually has Windows 7 starter as its OS so the only way to optimize it is to upgrade if it allows you to. Futhermore, it seems that you are so used to the interface of Windows 7 Ultimate as you have mentioned so what's stopping you? Never be afraid of changes. Adapt to changes. That's the best advice I can give you with regards to our ever-changing technology.
