I finally did it! I set aside time to read everyday!

I do not know if it is a success or fail mission yet as I just started. But I figured in the afternoons when my son is resting I would "rest" too. SO the last few days after I get done with his afternoon therapy session I let him rest and I make a cup of coffee and pile up in my favorite chair with my favorite (at the time) book! I am loving it and I'm actually finding that I am much more productive throughout the rest of the day! Do you have a set time to read, and do you find you are more productive if you give yourself a "break" like that?

Finding time has been difficult for me as well. I actually keep a book in the bathroom and one in the bedroom by my bed.. but it's going slowly!! I am enjoying my time that I ahve set aside.

I usually read short romantic novels on weekends as I don't really have much time on weekdays to read. But a daily routine for us is reading bed time stories to my son. He just loves to read. I usually buy him books at thrift stores where he can actually read them by himself. Reading time is our bonding time with him.

I read to my kids a lot when they were little and I taught them real young about the library and loving books and learning. IT has carried over into their adult lives as well. My grandson loves books already and he doesn't even really know what they are!

That's always good to do. Congratulations on being able to do this! It's not always easy to do. I hope that you're able to continue with this. I don't always manage to make time for reading sadly, but it's something that I really want to try and do. Especially considering that I enjoy reading, and it's something that I've always enjoyed doing.

I really do like to read but until this week i just didn't really do much. i could read a piece in the bathroom or at night when going to bed but this is really helping me out a lot. I should have done it a long time ago. It's just so difficult because I feel like I need to be working every waking hour!

Congratulations! do you know it's the best exercise for the brain? Who reads has 50% less chance to have Alzeimer's and also it's a great way of having entertainment isn't?

Yeah, it is both entertaining and educational! It's good for the brain to read and good for the body to rest! It's a win-win combination! I am enjoying it too and actually finding that I am more productive it seems since I started doing it.

I envy you! With the amount of books that I need to read, I have to set a schedule just to finish them, but I can't. Right now I find myself reading books before I sleep. At least I finish books even if it takes me a couple of weeks!

Yeah scrabble on my phone will take my time if I am not careful too! @jay - my goal is to read all of the books in my library, of course it is becoming a much more ardous task since I am still adding books to my collections!

We are living in the era of knowledge explosion.Tv and computer facilitate our knowledge acquisition .It seems that fewer and fewer people like to read. However I still find time to read every day ,I think it is quite another thing reading on the computer. When I have a book in my hand I can savour the every word.

I'm like you, I like to have my book in my hand. I do enough reading on the computer during the day while I am working.. it's nice to just sit down with a book and be able to read every word!

Being able to give yourself a Break like this is a Good thing, and one that would be nice to be able to do in the afternoon if I was not always at work. During the day before I head off to work I am usually too busy, like right now I am on here posting in myLot so unless I bring a book with me to read, I never get time to read much unless it a paper. But reading can be relaxing and motivational for sure.

I myself am trying to do the same thing. I have a production company that is based very heavily on history and whatnot so a lot of research is required (it doesn't feel like "work," however, because I have always loved research - much to the shock of my classmates when I was in school!) Naturally, it does make me more productive from a professional standpoint, but I also like the fact that it broadens my horizons and knowledge on a variety of subjects and challenges me to see things in a new light and creatively carry these thoughts whenever possible... trite as that sounds!

Congrats on finding that time slot. I hope you'll keep up with it well. I read all the time anywhere and everywhere so I don't really feel like I need to have time set aside because I'm constantly making the time wherever I can find it. I always carry a book with me and I read whenever I get a spare minute. I take public transit and I prefer it too cause it gives me time to read.

This sounds like such a good idea. You need time to rest and you also need 'me' time. Keep at it every afternoon. I would love to be able to do his and I assume that when it is just myself and my husband living here, I will do just that. Since I am 43 years old, it will be a while yet.

Good for you! I keep telling myself to do that too but I haven't as of yet. I just need to put down the computer, turn off the TV and pick up a book. I just don't actually do it. It sure seems like I used to have a lot more time to do things than I do now. Did they shorten the days and I didn't notice? Oh well, maybe when I retire I'll find time to read more.

I'm glad you found time to read or do what you want when your son you are taking care of gets some rest. Time is best appreciated when it is scarce, so guess you would also develop qualities where you could use it to the best of your advantage like reading and comprehending faster, good luck to you and your son and wish you the best

When he was still in the hospital and largely unconscious I read book after book. But after I got him home I just haven't had time to read. This is really working good for me for right now, we'll see how long I can contiue it!
