hi friends. most indian fans probably wont care for the india west indies match except for sachin scoring his 100th century or will ashwin play the game or not as they believe india has made it to the next level. they are wrong. the typical rule is the team has to win minimum 4 games out of 6 to go to next round. unfortunately for team india because of the tied match, they are still one point short of the magical 8 points which ensures next round. lets see how india cannot make it to the next round. first bangladesh has to beat south africa. sounds impossible.we had 3 upsets so far,why not another one? second india has to lose to west indies by 95 runs, which is also a posibility if they manage to take the top 3 cheaply. third and important, england has to beat windies by 95 runs. if all 3 happened, india will be still in 7 points while proteas, windies and banglaboys will go with 8 points and england with 7 points with better run rate will qualify. now how is this news for all indian fans?

Mathematical possibility, yes. Will it happen, no. :) That is my assessment of the situation. I expect England and India both to beat the West Indies. I think Bangladesh can beat South Africa if they play out of their skins. Especially if their slow bowlers come into their own. Cheers! Ram

I don't know if the calculations are correct but assuming it is I'd say the possibilities are there. India is yet to qualify.

Wow stardust, I really appreciate the calculation. That India would have to make all such arrangement was never thought before. And you are right that there is leas possibility of Bangladesh beating South Africa, With all pros and cons if India is to be among the eight they would have to beat West Indies with a good margin. And seeing the present scenario it does not look pretty easy job.

actually things will look up in indias favour if england loses. india-windies match being the last, india can afford to play whichever they want and even play so that they play the weekest in the group A .

Assuming your calculations are correct Let us look at all three possibilities. what if at least one or two go wrong? But you are basing it on the premise that India loses by a margin 95 and other two conjectures come true. It is a case fit for match fixing, can anyone fix it? who should you contact in the Indian team to set it up?
