I am talking about my nephew who is in the Navy! Last week my nephew Dan was sent over to Japan to be stationed on an USS aircraft carrier. First off he was not even near were the earthquake and tsunsumi hit! He is not near any of those nuclear plants that are having melt downs, either! Anyway the USS George Washington(Dan's ship) is going through maintance and in a month him and all the others who are to be stationed on there are either on barges or on land waiting. Dan is on a barge for now! I can't see him in person for two years but as least I can stay in contact with him on Facebook! So can his mom! I still will miss him and so will the rest of his family!

I hope Dan enjoys his your! If he likes it the 4 years he signed up for he might make it a career! I hope he does! Alot of people who have been in the military,it was good for them! A great learning expericene and some of the people were able to do traveling! I hope things go well! Right now Dan and all the crew of the USS George Washington are on board. The the ship was in mainatence. Maintence is not done but the crew will finish it out to sea. For now no interent or phone calls form Dan! Only contact is through the mail! I will worry but I know his mom will the most!

This is a bittersweet story. On one hand, your nephew is safe from the earthquake and tsunami area of Japan, but still he is so very far away from his family and friend; two years is a long time to be without a hug or face-to-face communication. However, there is still another bright side, the modern technology, Skype, Facebook, and other modes of distant communication is at our fingertips. You can at least, for the next two years, be able to see him physically and to hear his voice. Best to you all.

With Facebook it doesn't seem like Dan is half a world away in Japan! It is like he is still on the Navel base in Illinios! Now he is heading out to sea on monday! Sooner then expected! The ship he'll be on isn't done with maintence yet so they will finish it while out to sea. While that is going on Dan won't be able to commicate on Facebook or ny phone. Only by letters to and from the ship! Weird because I have not written a letter in along time! Dan will be missed but I am sure two years will go fast!

My prays are with you, your family, and of course Dan. May he return safe, sound, and hurriedly. I still write letters and I love the art of it.

Well, at least you have Facebook to be able to drop him a note from time to time and friends and family who will be missing him, and Praying for him and his safety as well. I know right now thinking of anyone being in Japan with all this turmoil there going on can be hard, but you need to remember God is in control. We just need to be Thankful for the chance for them to be there to help out and know that without them there what type of chance would they have in life as well?

I was surprised when the earthquale and tsunami hit,Dan didn't even know it had happen at first! All the family was worried but thank goodness for Facebook! He contacted us that way! Now he is heading out to see on monday! Earlier then planned and the maintence on the USS George Washington is not quite done! Until it is no communication except for letters! I can't remenber the last time I wrote a letter! I know he'll do fine! I hope Dan is not shocked being on a floating city that is bigger then the town he grew up in! I'd be in shock at first!

Hi. blue65packer. I do hope that you will be able to see your nephew. There are so many people that are stationed in the military and I hope that they will be okay. I hope that your nephew stays in touch with you and your mom. I have a first cousin that lives in Japan with her husband and two kids. Her family plans to move this summer to the states. I know that they will be glad to, especially after what has happened in Japan. They were not hurt at all during this earthquake though. I know that you will miss your nephew and I hope that he keeps in touch with you too. Take care.

I am sure I will see Dan again! Probaly not until his tour is done in Japan! I am grateful for Facebook! I have been contact with him. He won't be in contact with anyone for awhile! The Navy gave him and other crewmen orders to report to the USS George Washington. On monday they take off even though the ship in not fully done with maintance! That will be done as they head to sea! So for awhile no communication except for letters! I am proud of Dan and he will do well!

Yes I amd the whole family are proud of him! I never thought Dan would be a Military man but he is! He will do well! Communication will be slow for awhile! Monday Dan's ship heads out to sea! Not all the mainatence is done so that will be done when they are out at sea! Until then only letters to and from the ship! That will be weird because he's has been on Facebook, mostly everyday! So not hearing from him as often as before now will be strange but at least we still can be in communication!

Being away from a relative is really sad because we will surely miss them a lot. I remember when my favorite cousin was assigned in another island, i was really worried and i was missing him a lot. That island was not safe for him because it was full of terrorists. I was really worried that he might not come home. When he was there he requested me to send him letters as often as i can but i should not expect a letter back as he wouldn't have enough time to do that there. However, he would call me on the phone whenever he got the chance to and would let me know that he got my letter. Every time he comes home he would meet me no matter how hectic his schedule was and before going back he would drop by the house and would kiss me good bye if i was sleeping. I would be awaken by his kiss and I bid him farewell with droopy eyes. But the moment he went out of the door, my eyes would start to fall.

I last saw Dan on January 1st. I have been in contact with him on Facebook. I and the fsmily won't be able to hear from him,on Facebook or by phone for awhile. He is heading out to sea on Monday. Sooner then expected! His ship is not totaly done with the maintence so they will do it out to sea! Until they are done only letters to and from the ship! I know we'll stay in touch this way! With Facebook it feels like he isn't half way around the world! I know he is missed but he is going to be a good thing for him!

I am so grateful for Facebook and so is his mom and dad! I will miss his sense of humor the must and that he more like a younger brother then one of my nephews! It sucks I can't see him for the 2 years but the Navy seems to be good for Dan! That is very good thing!

I know right now if I wanted to get hold of Dan or anyone else we have to write to him! We just found out on Facebook the Navy, even though the USS George Washington is not quite ready, wants all their personal on the carrier by monday! Then they are going out to sea! So phone and internet won't be up for a while! So no contact for awhile! No big deal!
