I think failing to return phone calls is rude, thoughtless and inconsiderate. Do you think it is rude when people don't return phone calls? Why or why not?

When a law is passed that states that I am obliged to return phone calls, then I suppose I'll do so. Otherwise, my private time is my own and if I don't want to be interrupted in what I'm doing I'll not be answering. I use the phone for important things and just sitting and idly chatting is not useful.

I guess it depends on whose calling and why. I have certain friends that can call and leave a message and won't be upset if it takes me a few days to call back. I'm very busy, and phone calls tend to tie me up for a bit, so my friends understand I can't call back until I have some "quiet time" to chat. Salesmen etc that call and leave messages I don't feel obligated to call. Relatives I try to call right away, even if all I can say is I really don't have time to chat. It's not always rudeness that prevents people from calling back. Sometimes we just get busy and forget. (I am guilty, guilty, guilty of that!).
