Sitting in the Home stand when you support the away team

Today I went and watched Sunderland and Liverpool play at the stadium of light. However I could not get away seats so I got the promotion ticket for a tenner, in the Sunderland end ... I have to say its one of the hardest things ever when you have to not cheer when your team scores and have to clap and cheer for the enemy. You also have to listen to all the rubbish the supporters think about your team. Would any MyLotters like to share some stories about similar Like have you ever cheered in the wrong end ???

I would have been ripped to shreds by the mackems for cheering when liverpool scored. All I could here was constant swearing.

I have sat at the wrong end, but I did not really cheer. It just didn't feel right, somehow. Especially since my real team was winning, hehe!

If I was in your shoes, I think I will do that as well...It is better to be cautious, although your support is really needed by my team...I am afraid that I am not going out of the stadium in one piece!

Though I have not sit in the "enemy" quarter in a football match, I have done it multiple times in cricket matches. But never alone. Usually we will go in as a group of 5-10 people whenever we go for matches. I actually think it is fun as we usually have contests with the other set of fans, though at times it gets a bit heated. Cheers! Ram

I was in the same position, although I wasn't between the ultras. When Bayern Munchen was at Bucharest to face Steaua in the Champions League, I was at the game. I am a real Bayern fan, even fanatic, and I got a ticket among Steaua supporters, who are fanatical as well, they are on their feet all the game long, cheering and jumping from the first till the last minute. Bayern won the game, with van Buyten scoring in the 15th minute. I was with another Bayern fan, a friend of mine, but we haven't had the courage to jump up and scream. Everybody around us was jumping, cheering their team and talking bad about Bayern, booing them off and cursing them. We haven't cheered for Bayern, but we haven't jumped together with Steaua fans and we weren't singing Steaua songs. We were just happy that we have had the chance to see our beloved team in reality. And in 2010 Bayern was again in Romania, now much closer to my home. They have played against CFR Cluj and they have won 4-0. I have had ticket among CFR supporters, but not the ultras. I have cheered for Bayern all game long, I have jumped up when Bayern has scored and I felt great. The CFR supporters are very civilized, they haven't said a bad word to me, even if I was supporting Bayern. I have to say that in the Romanian league I support CFR, together with our local team, and I am against Steaua and every other team from the capital.

I never experienced the exact situation as yours, but I have experience when I am sitting beside two fanatic fans of the other team my team is playing against...I kept quiet although they have said harsh words about my team to keep thing calm...I kept quiet until my team scores a goal, which is eventually the winning goal of that match...I celebrated furiously with my friends, and the rest is history... I will never forget that day...

Not to forget, I watched the game live on television at a stall, and not in the stadium...Just to clarify my response...

I remember a few years ago when the Scottish Premier League (no laughing at the back ;)) went down to the wire. Celtic were at Fir Park taking on Motherwell while Rangers were at Easter Road taking on Hibs. The permutations were simple. If Celtic won they won the league. If Rangers didn't win the league title was Celtic's. The only way that Rangers could win the league was to win their game and hope Celtic didn't. Celtic were holding up their end of the bargain by winning 1-0 and Rangers were holding on to their 1-0 lead also as the matches entered the last 10 minutes. The helicopter carrying the trophy was on its way to Fir Park to award it to Celtic, but then something magically happened. Up popped then Motherwell striker Scott McDonald to score. 1-1. Then only minutes later he scored again. Boom. 2-1 Motherwell. The title was going to Rangers, the helicopter was on its way to Easter Road. As for me? I was in a pub full of Celtic fans watching the Celtic game (why would a Rangers fan be doing that you may well ask - it was because it was when I was at college and my mates were Celtic fans). Anyway, watching Celtic throw away the league in a pub full of Celtic fans was a feeling that was truly sublime. I wanted to cheer, I wanted to shout 'yyyyeessss' but I waited till I was outside. ;) Good times. :)
