I have a 8 GB Transcend pen drive. I have lot of important files in it. Whenever i insert it in any computer no folders appear. The pen drive apperas to be empty. But when i check the properties of the pendrive it shows me 7 out of 8 GB occupied, and i know that there are files in it. These files in it are not hidden.. Can anyone please tell me what could be the possible problem in it... And also how can it be solved.....

there are two types of hidden files in windows one is user's hidden file and the other one is system hidden file go to-- folder option -- view -- hidden file and folders check show hidden files and folder and uncheck hide protected operating system files if you uncheck hide protected operating system files then you should be able to see all the hidden files in your pen drive

Hi, Response at #3 is what I was going to say too. Some virus has made your files(actually folders you mean, I suppose?) system files. That's why they don't show up even while 'show hidden files and folders' is selected. Use the method above to see them. I'd like to add: *start command prompt * type I: in cmd, (assuming I:\ is your pendrive) I mean go to that drive. * type and enter attrib -h -r -s /s /d That will show all files and folders in your pendrive. I'm sure one of it will be autorun.inf named folder.

This actually removes all hidden and system properties from folders and files. Be sure to comment back.

I'm not going to repeat my answer... As I said in this box, go to command prompt, change to your pendrive, and type that line. Hit Enter. It will keep you waiting for some time if there were a lot of folders and files, and finally all the hidden folders will get unhidden. None of them are too important system files(there never are in pendrives). My advice is to delete every folder you don't know. If they are not made by viruses, they will return later. And if they are virus-made they will go away for good. Keep only important folders/files, important to you. See my previous response for reference.

Hey thanks for your help.. That worked. But i need your 1 more help. How do i now make those files unhidden. Because i cannot keep all the system files unhidden as there is a risk of deleting any of those files... So how should i make the folders unhidden. When i see the properties of the folders the unhidden checkbox is inactive (i.e. i cannot change that change that property probably coz its a system file now..!!!!)... So can you help me with this....
