Boy, I bet you didnt see this coming.... Bill Johnson, who represents workers at a Ford plant in Wayne, Mich., told the Detroit Free Press that if Ford does not restore "everything" to the union, "the membership is going to knock it down." Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/03/21/auto-union-looks-recover-concessions-ford-contract-talks/#ixzz1HKwKlmWr First sign of a recovery, the unions want their piece again. Never mind that this overspending had a lot to do with the downfall originally. To all these "Union Supporters" good job, heaven forbid the economy may pick up. Heaven forbid people might have started working again. As long as you get your bloated pay packages..... Bottom line people, the good ole days are gone. Suck it up and go to work. Be happy you have work. do you think we are going to see the end to unions? I think most people are sick of the rhetoric, the poor me mentality. What do you think? I think there are thousands of people ready and willing to fill these jobs.

At one time when employers were taking too much advantage of or mistreating their employees the unions were necessary. Those days are past. Now the unions just seem to be in the way. I was with one unionized company years ago. The union expected me to pay fees to them & support them when they had a walk out or strike but never actually did ANYTHING for me. Here they are complaining about the wages & benefits of some of the employees which I would have been happy to have ( I wasn't getting any benefits, low salary & odd hours at the time )& they wanted me to support them... Fortunantly I didn't join the union when I got the job.

I'm not at all surprised. Leftists - including union bosses and members - seem to hate businesses and the fact that businesses are supposed to make profits. They're also trying to force the foreign car plants in the south - like Hyundai - to be unionized. If you read the article, one of concessions they made was to have 2-tier pay system, and starting wages of only $14 per hour. Well, boo-hoo. There are plenty of people who are unemployed who would love to be making $14 per hour. Perhaps it's time for union member to go after union bosses and ask them to start taking some concessions. Cutting the salaries of union bosses in half would be a start.

What most people don't realize is that once a company employs union workers, the contracts all read that they cannot change that. They can't go back to being non-union for years and years. Usually, the unions insist that companies cannot have the same name either if they try to go non-union. Nor can they locate in the same place. And the list goes on.

It is. Can you imagine not being able to make it because of all the demands unions make and decided to go non-union, then having to wait 24 months before you open your business - at least 50 miles away. And...you can't call it "Smith Plumbing" anymore, even though Smith is your last name.

Frankly, I think Ford needs to grow a pair and fight this. One solid year of profitability doesn't mean they can, or should start spending like they're the same Ford they were 30 years ago. Their cars still aren't as good as Toyota, Honda, or Subaru no matter how much their fans wish they were. They're getting better, but the unions just want to raid the coffers as soon as they see an ounce of profit. If I remember correctly the CEO has a salary of $1 right now so it's not like he's milking the money out of the company either.

I agree Taskr. I think Ford needs to stomp on their outstretched hands, let them do their worst and hire new people.

Labor unions are like that. All they do is to talk of rights but never of responsibilities. The solution lies in inclusive management where the unions are a part of the managementsand are responsible for the health of the company. I have seen this in some companies and think that it is very innovative. Unions which do not take responsibilities usually run away from these proposals.

Many decades ago unions may have been useful, but with the creation of the EPA, OSHA, minimum wage, etc., I see no reason for unions in today's economies. If I were Ford, I'd let the union strike and I'd look to break it. There are plenty of people who would love to make anything close to what these union workers are paid. I was raised in a right-to-work state; unfortunately, I don't live in one now. But I'd love to break the unions here now... But, I'm not happy with Ford's bonuses to it's executives either.

I agree. Now is the perfect time for businesses to tell unions to take a hike.

I really want to see them go in the public sector. Absolutely no reason for them there and it's nothing but pure corruption.

Well, if salaries and prices continue to go up, no one will be able to afford a vehicle. This country is doing everything backwards. With the two parties it's like the government is playing tug of war. Lets face the facts, the president is basically powerless when congress really controls everything. I believe there will be an uprising in this country is thing continue this way. We need a leader that will pretty much tell congress to go and F**k themselves. Big business is a major problem in this country, they run the show and do not car about anyone else. Unions have good and bad points. In this world we live in now unions do not make anything better for no one. At one time in history they were needed. What this country needs is loyalty from a company and it's employees. Things work both ways. In this country no one should be homeless, we are, or should I say, we were the richest country in the world. We are becoming a third world country fast. We have to stop shipping jobs and business out of the country and bring things back home. We were once a proud country. We used to be number one. Lets bring back the pride and the productivity to America. Stop the outsourcing.

some people actually chose to be homeless. So be it. Some people chose to lay around and not work, so be it. I am not going to worry about that. This is supposed to be the land of opportunity. If somebody wants to succeed and is willing to put the time and effort into.... then so be it.

Most "regular" people are sick of union thuggery, but not our corrupt unions and government.
